  • My Langster, I’m riding 44x18 for some winter twiddling, Stronglight, Campagnolo Centaur brakes, ITM bars, Miche/Mavic Open Pro rim. Great to ride.

Speaking of such, I ride a similar ratios (49/20), however what I have notice is that I don't quite sit down properly when going at a higher speed, compare to a higher gearing that enable a relaxed cadence and thus able to relax onto the saddle and handlebar.

Do you find this to be the case?

  • You have to, as @middleofnowhere once told me, make your ankles go floppy. You can't push or resist at 66gi when thing get above 27/28mph, you have to sit down absorb the prescribed rhythm

  • 46:19 is biggest gear I generally ride.

I find it pretty hard to 'drive' the pedals at higher cadences but riding rollers has definitely increased my ability to spin.

214rpm is my max cadence on rollers (and I guess I must actually be 'driving' the pedals to this cadence as it cant come from descending since on the rollers), on the road I max out at 203rpm and that tends to be when descending.

When hitting higher cadences I really concentrate non pushing my bum into the saddle and only using my legs.
