This is where I think the 300bhp restricts things. With the price factor I think it favours big old barges... and without sounding like a broken record I don't get why you'd want a massive car if you've got a massive people carrier.
I don't think you could get a mk5 Gti to 300bhp. But with some light tuning mods whatever bhp it makes will be felt a lot more than in something like the Saab or whatever old Ford made jag fits the brief.
So my vote is a mk5 Gti. £5k might even have money for new tyres and mods.
Here's a question: what has over 300 horsepower, is around 5 grand, and is new enough/has low enough miles to not immediately shit itself and cost 10k to fix? That's it for the requirements other than I can sit in it comfortably.
