Had similar advice from a mechanic. We went for a test ride as I thought a wheel bearing was on its way out. He suggested I should either stop listening for issues or turn the radio up.

I had a Kenwood head unit installed in mine that does both Android and Apple - massive upgrade over the standard unit. And yes, will tell you where speed cameras are. Cheaper chinese options are available.

This was me picking it up! Took it down on a beavertail a month or so ago. I'm hoping to make a cheeky December day at
Donington now it's ready. -

Spotted this today - early 60's Vauxhall although the year and model would be complete speculation for me. Lovely car.

I love the E39 but that black on black colour scheme is not working. My personal favourite colour for the E39 is imola red.

Someone loves that ride for sure. And so they should. It is a Vauxhall Victor. Don’t know which mark. But great to see cheers dude

My first thought was a Cresta.

Cresta pb maybe,

I was thinking about it, and I reckon you should be going the other way and get a Fiesta ST or Mk1 Golf Gti.
What's the rational for a fast barge when you've got the Andy Lee and a Porsche?
If it's just about a saloon V8 I still reckon you should look at a Lexus RC F. Will likely cost you a lot less to fix the broke bits and bring it up to spec.

I was actually looking at 205 GTi's and so on last night. Problem is that anything in the modern classic bucket is either £! or requires £!
-
• #68565
That's why I thought the Fiesta ST.
Idk if my man maths is off, but I've always thought Hill climbing cars were quite good vfm. I mean how much does sound deadening and carpet cost? They always seem to have had quite a bit spent and you can see all the metalwork.
(I may be heavily influenced by a 205 Mi16 I was watching a while back.)

That Tolman 205 GTi must have been on the search results then? The 306 GTi6 is a better proposition, but does not have the cool factor of a 205.
-
• #68567
The 205 and the Golf were the cars I wanted when I passed my test, which of course tells you how old they are now.

@Fixedwheelnut where would you recommend taking a 2002 540i to get it a) inspected and (if bought) b) fixed?
-
• #68570
M5 or nothing.
-
• #68571
Would be 15k more. Smaller £ numbers are better.
-
• #68572
Nice, what did you have done? Is it a 1.8?
-
• #68573
Sure but do you actually need a 540i? I bet no. So the point is a cool nice car. Sure the Vito would be just as nice to do long drive in as 540i
Me id just put money in the bank and retire a few years earlier. Or work a bit less. Or go on a few more mtb holidays.

I like trying different cars - I've always liked the idea of a 540. For me, it's a reasonable use of my resources.
I admit that having no kids probably makes my calculation different from that of many others.
-
• #68575
But why not the 530i? Isn't that the sweet spot of the E39, if you're not going m5?
Not that I wouldn't buy the 54i estate though, that's cool.
On the Jag forum I discovered that there is a pipe that usually splits and the jubilee clips either side of the intercooler.
You can do a cheap smoke test with a smoke match. If it is good enough for testing flues.
