Suspect an inlet pipe has popped off as a jubilee clip has rusted and broken. Don't make a popping noise if the pipe splits.

Check on the forums as sometimes there is an inlet pipe that commonly fails.

On the Jag forum I discovered that there is a pipe that usually splits and the jubilee clips either side of the intercooler.

You can do a cheap smoke test with a smoke match. If it is good enough for testing flues.
