• Everything is edible for this one!

  • We have a Henry Pet hoover, which works pretty well on rugs and carpets with the special pet fur attachment

  • are there any go-to brushes for cleaning/removing hair from rugs and carpets?

Dog hair varies a lot and so do the textiles they get stuck in.

For us (with a whippet), a lint roller is indispensable. Not sure it'd work as well for a longer haired dog though.

  • Made friends with PJ the pub dog at the Spit & Sawdust on Bricklayers today. His fur is so soft.

  • Met the record dog that had been missing today. Great news is that she’s in really decent shape. She had lost 2kg (of her 20kg usual fighting weight), but looks fine - I was happy to empty my treat pocket for her to help get the weight back. They had her off the lead in the park - not sure I’d have been that brave for a few weeks, but she seemed placid and relaxed.

They think she’d run down the railway tracks and that’s how she got as far as Beckenham.

  • This prick is 3 today, or sometime this week probably.

  • Daisy is booked in to be speyed this week - feel a bit nervous about it. Anyone had any noticeable behavioural issues or differences following the op?

  • None whatsoever, except a tendency to put weight on.

  • Nah, first few days of lethargy, then wanting to go outside, then going mental when actually allowed outside

  • Nothing like some anecdotes to calm the nerves lol, thanks. I'm concerned it'll make her reactivity worse but think overall it's the right thing to do. We had a dog die after being speyed when I was younger so that's likely contributing too.

  • We had our dog speyed at 9? months i think.

No noticeable change i'd say, at the time she was obviously feeling a bit rough for a few days and the post op meds they gave her gave her an upset stomach but that was about it

  • Our border terrier is now 5 months old, and starting to "gain independence" (read, ignore us and be a little shit)
Yesterday, in the park, he decided to pop into an adjacent field and meet a horse.
Thankfully the horse didn't give a fuck about of little yapper trying to play with him.
Hilariously Bosco kept popping into the classic puppy play pose to get this full size horse to play with him.
    Bless his optimism.

  • ^ Been in this phase the last couple months!
Had the same situation with cows.

  • Otto did that with some police horses once. I was mortified. They really snuck up on us...we just turned a corner in the park and there they were. I'm sure he thinks horses are just giant whippets.

  • Just remembered him trying to play with a scattering herd of fallow deer once too.

  • Our JRT thinks he could have a fair fight with a cow. That’s Napoleon syndrome for you.

  • I was walking Odie in some fields and spotted some cows a couple of fields away. I assumed we were at a safe enough distance until he bolted, covered the distance from us to the cows in a remarkable time, went right up to a cow who went for him, then sprinted away back to me in an even more remarkable time, then proceeded to be the most obedient, walking to heel dog in the word for the rest of the walk.

  • Colin managed to slip his collar to tell the fortune of a couple of police horses in Greenwich High Street once. Dickhead.

  • The park closest to my house has a stables and a couple of paddocks (Brixton’s famous Ebony Horse Club). Familiarity means Reggie totally ignores horses. The same principle doesn’t apply to squirrels…

  • We just had a shit morning walk experience.

Otto, like many whippets, has the bad habit of sprinting up to approaching dogs in the hope that they will chase him. This is overly boisterous behaviour but entirely friendly and if the other dog is well socialised then its a non event. We know this behaviour is not desirable though so we manage it as best we can, being careful to have him on the lead if we are near dogs he doesn't know etc.

Today, Otto surprised me by sprinting towards and doing a near pass of a young spaniel who he wanted to chase him. This caught me totally off guard, but not as off guard as the young spaniel who screamed and then bolted. Otto just stood there looking confused as this young dog just pegged it across a road and out of sight.

Owner started yelling at me for my dog attacking his. Thankfully managed to find the terrified dog not far away and get her back to her owner who was very grateful. I know I could have done more to avoid that situation happening but imagine having a dog that is so scared of other dogs trying to play with it...it must be draining.

  • Scotty does the same thing, mainly when the other dog is looking away too, he loves being chased, thankfully he usually does that lie down and stare them out from a distance thing first if he doesn't recognise them so there's time to make sure the other person knows he's a just a friendly twat or hopefully get him to wait and everything generally works out OK, can't catch them all though.

  • I stood in dog poo this morning, in the living room...

Got downstairs (in the dark) and noticed the curtain rail had fallen down. Didn't spot the brown egg until it was too late and making my foot wet.

Yesterday evening's walk was poo-less, which I just chalked up to being 'one of those days', apparently not (that, or she'd scavenged something she shouldn't have and this was always going to happen).

  • Mine runs at bigger dogs, stops a few meters away then runs back to me and acts shocked when they inevitably catch her on the way.

  • In the park, Bosco will run at an approaching dog, about 3 metres away he will slow down, and get low until he is about 0.5m away, then he will commando crawl towards them, where he will proceed to lick their face. A lot.
