I photographed the anechoic chamber at the Building research place in Watford, it’s huge. they closed the door behind me so i was in there on my own waiting for the mesh floor to stop bouncing so i could do a long exposure.
It’s a very strange environment to be in especially when you have somebody speak off-axis and you can hardly hear them -

Good, intersting post.
I do 1, I wish I had the money to do 2 properly.

starts collecting egg boxes

No need as you can get the experience without treatment. And egg boxes do nothing of use.

I have amended my error. I should read what I type. Thanks for bringing it to my attention so humorously.

Top post... and it's not even an alias of me :)
Yup... I'm going more for the transparent near/mid monitors.
I've had great speakers from a musical perspective... but these PSI Audios on my desk... sigh, I'm ruined now. They are phenomenal and I cannot stop listening to music. I've been in studios for recordings, and present for mastering, I know the people involved and for me... hearing their voice, the instruments, hearing it is as obvious as seeing a TV where the colour reproduction is off... and the PSI Audio speakers have finally given me as close to the reproduction I recall from the time (allowing for my memory being shit).
How to achieve that in a larger room where the environment is non-ideal? Damned if I know. A lot of experimentation and being an annoyance to retailers and a forum :)
I may conclude it's just not possible... or only possible if I sit in one place. It's all good in the end.

I have been in several anechoic chambers, they can be quite disorientating.

99.99% of homes are not ideal. surely that is the challenge?

Guitar amp as a sub?
-
• #10488
These days I just stick active monitors on my desk. Means I can lose the amp and cables. "Audiophile" stuff has always fascinated me but then so do things like car crashes...

Look at older Sony 4750, technics SL1600/1800 or a project debut (whatever is going for sale locally). Just need something for a short while you won't loose anything. Put a AT92 on it, and for it.

Anyone 'UP' on tv tech?
Ours is coming up 10 years old, works fine, but was never a fancy TV in the first place (mid tier Samsung 42" LCD/not LED backlit fluro I guess, does blacks about as well as a sheet of white paper at this stage).
Think it might be time to jump directly into OLED, LG A1 @ 48" and £700 seems very tempting, doesn't have 'latest' frequency and sync for higher end gaming, need the LG C1 for that at around £300 more for same size. Then the age old, do you get 2021.5 up to date tech in the current A1/B1/C1 platform, or go back to 2019 and get a higher one (C9/G?) thats reduced because its deemed older, but not too old?
Figured OLED's main drawback was power consumption, heat, burn in (can't think of anything we'd use it for that would cause that) and not super bright, only around 350-500 nits. Any other drawbacks, or is now a good time to go OLED? -

i need help here too.

I would strongly recommend getting the C1 if you can afford it (or a CX if there are any left hanging about)
HDMI 2.1 will be worth it alone but the panels have got a lot better in the last few years; less risk of burn in but with higher peak brightness which makes things like HDR content pop.
I've got a 55" 2016 B6 OLED and a 65" 2020 GX OLED and the difference in brightness and processing capability is pretty noticeable.
Also worth thinking about is apps - only the last two years models have got Apple TV, Airplay etc so you'd limit it by getting an older one.

I considered replacing our elderly plasma earlier this year and Phillips OLED seemed to offer more value than the cheaper LG (sub £1000 for 55).

Picked up a refurbished vintage Pioneer (PL-12D) with a cart for a good price.
Listening to OK Computer right now and sounding alright. Happy with my purchase so far. -

Ace!
Got a search on a few models and will see if anything comes up during 'sale season', though suspect they are already at the price they are going to be till next year. -
• #10497
Thanks for the suggestions.
The Pioneer is here to stay and will sound even better once the existing cart is replaced.
It'll be interesting to compare it with my main deck once it's back. -

On the hunt for a pre-amp with MM phono stage that will feed my Quad 303 nicely. Fed up with my 33 - looks vintage nice, but troublesome. Anybody got something semi-nice they don’t need? Thinking I might get the 303 altered for BNC or aome other interface as the 4pin DIN makes really fucking loud shorting type noises sometimes - I’m pretty sure that’s doable …

Have you see the work this place in .nl does?
https://quadrevisie.eu/home-quadrevisie.html
I found them while looking for a solution to my 34’s switching issue (which is, it turns out, a problem across most of the 34s Quad manufactured). My 34 is now a laptop stand. Love their 303 refurbs though, I’d definitely send them my 303 if I had a reason to use it again : )

Cool, thanks. Was going to go see Mike Solomons with the 303, but will take a look. We coulda talked amps on Sunday! Hah.
Was even secretly harbouring the thought I might find another 303 and go mono block with a pair.
Is that like an echo chamber, but with no moderators?
