• Anyone 'UP' on tv tech?
Ours is coming up 10 years old, works fine, but was never a fancy TV in the first place (mid tier Samsung 42" LCD/not LED backlit fluro I guess, does blacks about as well as a sheet of white paper at this stage).
Think it might be time to jump directly into OLED, LG A1 @ 48" and £700 seems very tempting, doesn't have 'latest' frequency and sync for higher end gaming, need the LG C1 for that at around £300 more for same size. Then the age old, do you get 2021.5 up to date tech in the current A1/B1/C1 platform, or go back to 2019 and get a higher one (C9/G?) thats reduced because its deemed older, but not too old?
Figured OLED's main drawback was power consumption, heat, burn in (can't think of anything we'd use it for that would cause that) and not super bright, only around 350-500 nits. Any other drawbacks, or is now a good time to go OLED?

  • I would strongly recommend getting the C1 if you can afford it (or a CX if there are any left hanging about)

HDMI 2.1 will be worth it alone but the panels have got a lot better in the last few years; less risk of burn in but with higher peak brightness which makes things like HDR content pop.

I've got a 55" 2016 B6 OLED and a 65" 2020 GX OLED and the difference in brightness and processing capability is pretty noticeable.

Also worth thinking about is apps - only the last two years models have got Apple TV, Airplay etc so you'd limit it by getting an older one.

  • Ace!
Got a search on a few models and will see if anything comes up during 'sale season', though suspect they are already at the price they are going to be till next year.
