Said a final goodbye to the red ‘dale when I dropped it off to my dad two weeks ago. It’s resigned to a life of riding to the golf club.
Finished off building the Lava Done this week - thanks @Alban for the cranks and levers. Took it for a quick loop of some easy tracks and it’s all good - don’t think I will be changing much on this except for the tyres.

Very nice! Fancy build. Glad to see those parts put to great use. The cranks look much better on your Kona than my Blizzard. Black chainring also looks much better. Love those pedals too but they ain’t half heavy eh!

Thanks for the kind words - these were the last pair of pedals I ran on my BMX before the inevitable ACL trauma. They seem pretty indestructible although I forgot that I removed the pins out of one side of the left pedal for grinds. Scared myself when my foot slid off on a berm today. Must sort.

I love it, but I'm really torn because I can't stand eye-bolt cantis and the cranks are probably too long for someone of the right height for that bike, so it would probably be a complete groupset swapparoo if I bought it.

I just love the Fred Salmon stem. And the fact it's an MF too.

How about I sell you the stem if I buy it?

I might be willing to sell my retro mtb, I am aware I am not going to get back what I spent (670£) but listen to a reasonable offer.

I'd go for that, yes. If you did, I could arrange collection with my works carrier to avoid the carriage charge if the seller can box up. Have it sent direct to you.

Interesting! I'm just pinging some questions to the seller, It's not worth it if the rims are knackered. Let's see if he gets back to me.

Dunno... it’s aluminium? MF was cooler in the earlier years imo. Stx stuff is quite nice, but don’t think I’d buy anything but steel anymore. I sold my zaskar cos the ride was too stiff and weird feeling. Of course that’s a personal preference, keen to hear others’ thoughts 🙂

TBH, what I'm after is a lightweight (tall) kids hybrid (or a frame to build one around). Something with enough toughness to handle some towpaths, but light enough and low-geared enough to be easy to push up hills. I wouldn't ride an old aluminium MTB myself, partly because of the ride and also because I'm not totally sure that I wouldn't crack it. It turns out to be irrelevant though, since the seller didn't get back to me with any answers to my queries (@Muddyfox69)

Kept dropping chains with the last mech so swapped to a low normal xtr and it’s shifting good and the chain is staying put.
Enjoying being able to go slightly faster offroad than on my gravel bike.
