I bought a 486DX2-66 with 4MB RAM in 1994 for about £1000. I think that left me with £50 from my student loan that year.
I remember walking around the rather less salubrious bits of Sheffield with £1000 in £20 notes thinking "I'm going to get mugged. I'm going to get mugged."
