  • I'm always very skeptical of USB-C chargers. The spec is so complex and the power levels can be really quite high that I pretty much don't trust anyone besides the main tech companies to produce one that won't destroy your devices.
    Same applies to cables. A bad USB-C cable can cause serious damage.

  • This was my suspicion. Considering how dodgy/dangerous cheap standard USB sockets are, I donโ€™t feel too enthusiastic about trying to cram a cheap USB C power supply in there.

    IIRC the story that did the rounds a few years back was someone deliberately plugging a high current laptop (there's a special category of USB C for devices over 3A) in to low current cables and seeing what happened. If you're just plugging your phone in to charge that doesn't really apply.

    Electronics in walls are still a shite idea, but I don't think USB C is materially worse or more risky than USB A.
