  • Yes, but the cost/stress of shipping it here meant I couldn't actually buy one.

  • So, storage/security options. As I've now got an ebullitt coming in about a month this is a very real issue. I don't have a choice but to put it in the front garden, long term I'd like to have proper storage built but it'll probably involve the front wall going and a complete redo of the front garden so not imminent.

At the moment I already (and have done for 4 years) have my sweet fixeh commuter chained to a wall anchor and haven't had any issues. My plan is to have another ground anchor so it's secured with 2 thick motorbike chains but I've also been wondering whether a frame lock with an alarm would be a worthwhile added deterrent and if anyone has any experience? I've seen the Ilockit one which also has GPS but have concerns about an electrically controlled lock.

Basically that, having insurance and hoping for the best is all I can think to do at the moment.

  • I would strongly recommend getting a gps tracking system too, check out PowUnity

  • It'll be very competitive for sure, but with the supply issues they're experiencing how many will be available for sale?

  • I have been thinking about gps but didn't know there was anything decent. These look interesting, are they pretty straight forward to install?

  • Yes they are, I’d be happy to offer any advice on installation by pm if you need but if you’ve already got mechanical know how I’m sure you’ll be alreet.

    They’re great. Very reliable.

  • Yeah totally!. We’ll have to see I guess. It’s great that they are willing to offer it and shows the demand is there.

  • With GPS, they'd need to be connected to the battery, surely (he says, having not read anything). Which defeats the purpose of taking the battery indoors at night. Or is there some wizardry I'm missing?

  • Do people use alarmed motorcycle disc brake locks on cargo bikes? If not, why not?

  • Cool, I'll get on it.

  • They have a battery, that is charged by the bike’s battery while it’s plugged in. After a few days it might run flat but not a problem if you use your bike fairly regularly

  • The PowUnity one MCamb recommended had it's own back up battery as well.

  • Bingo, thanks

  • Price just dropped, Decathlon long tail will be €2.7k: https://decathlon.fr/p/_/R-p-x329177?mc=8605830

  • I have some bad news. According to some guy that wouldn't stop talking to me yesterday, cargo bikes are bad for the environment. By causing other, fossil fuel burning road users to occasionally slow down from 20/30mph to ~15mph, we are increasing their emmisions, this is doing untold damage. Guess we should probably all go and buy vans to help the environment.

  • A lot of drivers hate slowing down for people on bikes. Amazing how different that can be when it comes to pedestrians in the road.

  • wow this is a new one! Were you in some sort of analogue version of Twitter?

  • we should probably all go and buy SUVs to help the environment

FTFY. This is the popular current opinion.

  • Esp if the SUV has grey plastic arch spats to make it look more outdoors leisure able, maybe drape a few patagucchi jackets on the back seat too, really ensure everyone knows you are helping to save the planet :p

  • I'll ask in here.
I need a ramp, like a portaramp - I've just seen on at the train station I'm at, to wheel my bike up the back steps so I don't smash the motor.

Where can I buy such a thing.

  • In the guy's defence, he was a traffic warden. Maybe he saw me as a threat to his livelihood.

  • Yes!

    Thank you

  • @cake finally did it!!
