  • Hope you get better soon. Also that you and the fam don't have any long term side effects.

  • much appreciated thanks...it's hanging around a bit but my wife (12 days since symptoms) has just a very slight dry cough now (barely coughed at the height of symptoms) and slightly affected taste/smell and I, 8 days since start just a bit achy and slight hacking cough and similarly affected taste/smell....both pretty washed out mind but certainly grateful and get the sense we 'got away' quite lightly.

  • Glad to hear you’re on the mend, it may have been worse if you haven’t been vaccinated.

  • who's to know but very much agree and, especially for my pregnant wife, relieved to have had the vaccine as wouldn't have wanted much more of a severe dose than I had/have - which is I sense very much on the more mild side of the spectrum - that's for sure.

  • Planning for then is impossible, loads of things could change hugely in that timescale.

Yeah, I realise that... I'll probably fly to Spain then book a flight to London nearer the time... If it hasn't already turned into the zombie apocalypse by then... Obvs...

@Oliver Schick Crazy that we're this far down the track but life is still super fucked up. If only all nations had taken covid seriously to begin with.

  • Things in Spain are really good right now. But who knows in 6m.

  • what is the total amount of cases recorded in the uk now ? where can i see the data ?

  • cheers

  • It's looking like cases are finally really going down (good) my guess is people are reinfecting each other as masks, wfh etc. are mostly gone.

But Northern Ireland rates aren't great... We still have wfh and masks in buses / shops. Perhaps it didn't rip through the population as much before?

Not so good, immunity from vaccinations (though probably not protection against hospitalisation) drops 20% ish in 6 months. So you go from 80-90 to 60-70 with Janssen dropping much more.

    Not ideal?

I will get lateral flow tests for the Christmas party just in case...to not drag it in to my colleagues and avoid dragging it in the house. Guest bed here I come ;)

262 deaths yesterday though, and for the week to yesterday 1,191 have died.

Jonathan Van-Tam has said he's worried that Covid levels are "running this hot, this early in the autumn season".

Nobody seems to care though, so I guess it's more business as usual watching the death tally go up and being glad it's not you, like some sort of national Squid Game.

    Poignant

  • I'm going by guardian graph and Zoe YouTube update, but didn't hear Van Tam that's worrying :(

You are right the worry seems over for many... masks are over in many places.

Netherlands is now adding restrictions again as cases are spiking there, similar no mask rules though vac passports are used.

I thought maybe UK bucked the trend but maybe not...

I'm not sure re Christmas party as it's inside. Jabs still ok ish, no health issues, will get LFT... but it's inside so risk of infection is real.

  • Third story down is pretty horrendous

  • Newsom Ditched Global Climate Summit After His Kids Staged an ‘Intervention’

    That one?

  • My bad - they’ve updated.

“‘Rust’ Crew Member Facing Amputation After Spider Bite on Set”

Anyway, apologies, I don’t want to derail the thread.

  • That one is pretty grim, yes.

I'm all for vaccination but this is not a good move I think. Vaccination cuts down infections but by 2/5 to 1/4 so it's something but also not a 100 % and care homes already have staffing issues.

Part due to Brexit as EU mainland workers no longer come, part due to low pay for hard work (people move to Amazon jobs instead!)

  • Had Covid late 2020 and was basically asymptomatic. Now double vaccinated. Felt ropey this past weekend. General aches, pains and fatigue. Lateral flow test came back negative, but went off for PCR. Tested at 09:00 got result, negative, at 23:16.

TL:DR PCR test turned round in 14hrs.

  • Only 6 eh? Nothing to worry about, the 104 or whatever with underlying conditions matter even less.

  • On Covid rants, my wife who got it after 1 jab back in July has been suffering long Covid since, improving but not right, smell and taste still off. She picked up the cold that's been going round a few weeks ago and it's floored her, at least as bad as Covid symptoms at the time. She's spent the last couple of weeks mainly in bed with real trouble breathing at times, apparently brought on by random adrenaline bursts that are a symptom bringing on panic attack style episodes, she's already well versed in panic attacks, being on long term medication for anxiety and depression (I'd recently brought up aiming to get off those as an aim for next summer), the history of blood clots in her family, with it killing her dad a few years back, really doesn't help either. We've had a few trips to doctors, walk ins and A&E, chest x-rays came back OK so now she's apparently one of the many people who look like they've developed ME from it. Woot.

  • Fucking hell, Rob, hope that isn't the case and the wife is on the mend soon... ♥️

  • Oh no, that sounds awful. Healing wishes to your wife, and yes, hope that's the wrong diagnosis of what's happening. :(

  • It's probably the right diagnosis TBF, at least it's something to work at, last few weeks have been a bit up the air.
