is it just me or is there something iffy going with that a-string around the nut?

Yeah, looks like it popped out of the slot. It’s not mine, just a photo I swiped off Reverb that’s the same colour.

I've always added another string tree to my J basses to hold the A string down otherwise they just pop out too easily. I do hammer my strings though.
