What is this? Its in our room. It seems some sort of TV cable right? Can I just cut the wire and stuff it in without risk of dying or do I need to be more careful than that?

cut them both.
put a male aerial end on side and *FEmale on other (its easy honest) and plig them together then stuff it in the wall.

I dont know the actual term, coaxial maybe?

The standard TV aerial plug/socket is rather quaintly called the Belling-Lee, after the British company that invented them.

I'm sure this was on your patriotism test.
