  • I've lost my multi-tool.

What recommendations for a new one?

    I want:

    • knife
    • screwdrivers (flat and philips) - multiple sizes is a nice to have
    • pliers are a nice to have

    I do want:

    • scissors

I did have a Leatherman Free T4... I thought buying a luminous green colour would prevent my losing it, I was wrong. I liked it, but as a screwdriver it suffered from not being centred.

May buy another, but are there recommendations?

  • Since I bought it back in 2000, my Leatherman Wave (it has everything you list above, and more) has been the go-to tool that I pick up whenever I'm going out on site. (I should add that my job is the sort which doesn't ordinarily require me to take tools on site - I just enjoy being prepared for any eventuality).

  • I can recommend the Leatherman Skeletool CX. It's a tidy little thing with everything you've listed. Ive got the one with a partial carbon body, it looks good but i doubt it makes much actual difference in function.

  • Leatherman tools are definitely my favourite multitool and the Wave as suggested is about as good as any of them, but they have a locking blade, and that really limits their functionality as you can’t legally carry one anywhere unless you have a very specific reason to have a locking blade.
I would buy the blade less rebar as a multitool
And a pocket knife that’s legal to carry.
There are also loads of lovely traditional Sheffield knife makers with suitable pocket knives. they are relatively cheap but fine for most tasks and quite pleasing to use.
