  • Done some Googling since I posted. Air suspension and a shitload of electrical gubbins means I’m out.

    I lived in constant air-suspension-fear when we had a w124. Never again.

  • Yeah, my f11 5 series had to have one of the air bags replaced, which I think is a not uncommon issue.
    My e class was fine* for the 2 years I had it, but was a lot newer. * apart from front brake judder which meant it was continually at the dealers for them to replace discs and pads....

  • Any know of a Renault specialist? Ideally east. Partners car is really gutless and needs crazy revving to get it going.

    Although seem to be going up in value now too.

  • Could be the MAF sensor needing a clean? Super easy to DIY if so (YouTube etc for exact model and details, but you basically need a screwdriver and a can of electrical contact cleaner), and if that doesn't change it at least you haven't spent £££ on garage labour to find it out.

  • That is nice, really do like a webasto sunroof. Like the way the roof folds itself away so neatly.

    Not sure about the stripped wheels tho.

  • Hive mind- Not sure what I am thinking but

    The x type has a rear lower suspension bush (silent block) that is passed its best and I'm not happy with. Want to replace it before I drive it any distance. Seems to be an issue to get a cross reference to the jag part number, but some of the ebay parts cross reference to a mondeo part.

    Should I just got to the jag dealer and buy the part (expensive and it is an INA bush made in germany) or buy the autodoc moog mondeo part and wait till it arrives.

  • Quick google:

    The Body Integrated Unit seems to be a secondary computer of sorts to the ECM. It controls things like the air climate control, windshield wipers, power windows, immobilizer, display gauges - essentially, everything electrical that doesn't directly control the engine

  • Could it just be a worn key barrel/ignition assembly?

  • Doing a bit of Googling and there's a known fault in (what is, reading between the lines) a micro-switch in the shifter which is meant to detect whether the shift is in Park.

    If the shift is in park it releases a solenoid that otherwise retains the key in the ignition.

    Micro-switch goes bad=solenoid won't release as the car can't "see" that the shifter is in Park.

    Apparently one way of diagnosing it is to shift back and forth through PNRD and back to P until you hear a click, which is the solenoid disengaging after the micro-switch has worked. Gets worse when it's hot, from the forum posts I've just scanned through.

    It's a "Park Range Switch Malfunction" in Subaru language.

    That's for the Outback, mind, I don't know if it translates to yours, but the diagnosis method seems pretty low-cost.

  • The BIU are a problem in older Cutreons c4. But at replacement second hand units can be reprogrammed to different cars with the dealer software.

    Has been a lucrative source of income for me ;)

  • Fwiw Harry's Garage rates the L322 as a good buy at the moment. Still air suspension tho.

  • At the top, the cooking/Carrera part, £6 when it was available but NLA.

    Next in line, the same part but now with a GT3 part number, £40+.

    Both of these are normal mild steel - so they rust away pretty fast. Not really a huge issue when it's £6, but annoying when it's closer to £60.

    Final/bottom bracket - stainless steel, made by us/H2 Engineering, probably around the same for a pair as it costs for one mild steel one from Porsche.
