yep spot on analysis. would not have been surprised to see him get sent off. but the still doesn't show him cleanly getting the ball before foot bouncing up high.
keeps everything interesting with Chelsea dropping points too. palace beating city last week too. shows any of the big three can drop points.

His foot bounces off the top of the ball and straight into Henderson's standing leg. He is fully (both feet) off the ground when making the challenge. There is force involved (he jumps in). I'm certainly not suggesting any agenda against Liverpool, nor attempting to undermine the result and the WH performance, but as a defense of Klopp from accusations of groundless moaning. That is a fucking horrific tackle that could have done serious damage. He's very protective of his players. It's a red every fucking day and any argument otherwise is beyond one-eyed.

i haven't listened to any of the klopp moaning. and like i said wouldn't have been surprised if cresswell got a red for that. I just think the still shows it looking a lot worse than it was. if any player intended to take a guy out with his studs into his knees its a straight red no argument. but there was just something random about way his foot ended up that way. maybe cresswell should have got red for poor technique. i am all for that

Terrible tackle - even if his foot doesn't bounce off the ball the follow through would've seen his studs connect with Hendersons ankle.
Yes I'm an Arsenal fan but I can't understand how this wasn't a red but Xhaka got a red against City earlier this season for a cleaner tackle (although admittedly still a studs up lunge). It's the inconsistency in refereeing that drives me mad.

Intent is a total red-herring here, it's a straight red because it's uncontrolled, off the ground and with force. VAR did bottle it, I have no idea how that gets reviewed and it's no action to be taken. Intent doesn't come into any refereeing decisions because its so subjective.
-
• #159382
if no action was taken in the game can it not be reviewed after and a retrospective red given? they change this shit so much that I am not sure.
-
• #159383
As you say, his foot bounces off the ball. He's not gone in with both feet off the ground and out of control, it's unfortunate he's made the contact he has.
I'm still a bit pissed off with the VAR penalty reversal at goodison park, tbh. Crying out for those sweet, sweet points at the moment.

yeah will inconsistency of refereeing is and always will be part of the game. VAR has not done that much for that. I don't recall the Xhaka sending off. he does seem to be one of those players who is a bit marked out. actually, let me go find it and take a look
-
• #159385
I have no idea either!

• #159386
We're not going to achieve much by going back and forth on this, but I'd suggest he wasn't fully in control if he missed the connection he was presumably going for to the point that he flew over the ball with both feet off the ground and into Henderson's legs studs first.
-
• #159387
ah yeah remember that now. very little contact with cancelo. seems it's about the speed and the studs up nature of it. Xhaka clearly got the ball.
on another day he might have got nothing for that. as you say inconsistency of refereeing.

Fair enough. Bit spurious speculating on the contact he wants to get, though. I'd say he wants to make any contact with the ball, once he does that he loses control. Way the game's reffed, he could well have been sent off, but I can see why he wasn't.
-
• #159389
As I said, you've seen them given and he probably got a bit lucky but you can see from the video there wasn't a great deal of force there as he slipped which is why it wasn't given.
It was more Klopp's comments on the first goal and how that was definitely a foul on Allison. I really don't want to watch Klopp's vision of football where any physical contact is a foul.

Cresswell tried to kick the ball while sliding in.
Poor tekkers. Red.Alternative
Cresswell plays for WHU

RED.Just red.
I think Xhaka's tackle harks back to those days when you could do stuff like that, and well. MODERN FOOTBALL ISN'T LIEK THIS. THEY DON'T LIEK IT UP THEM DO THEY!!? FACKIN HELL.

Ah, Liverpool lose and we get treated to a page and a half (maybe) of moaning about how badly they’re treated…
-
• #159392
Imagine how long the thread would be if we had the same every time Derby lose.
-
• #159393
Plus a page of moaning about moaning
-
• #159394
We tend to know how to keep the moaning to a minimum (just like our points tally). BOOM BOOM
