Is this an office/studio? If so, you'll have fire-regs to consider with a fabric drop, and although the surplus parachute might be FR rated could be tricky. A thicker wool might be a good option because they have a natural fire resistance, would absorb sound, and hang heavier for less disruption in a working environment? One further problem with a parachute is the panels are usually cross-grain (ie diagonal), making it tricky to sew consistently evenly
