  • Oh, I wasn't suggesting it was particularly bad! Just the quote I've recently received... no idea how fast they work, I'd be looking to get about 35m2 done I think. No idea if that would be doable in a day...

  • Should be, that's about half what I had done, with a lot of angles too (that's what takes time, more the square footage). The two of them were done mid-afternoon.

  • If you're South London, you're welcome to borrow my corded belt and orbit sanders. You'd just need belts and sanding discs which are cheap from Toolstation/Screwfix. Definitely slower than an industrial hired sander, but at least then you can take your own time and hook them up to a henry hoover for even better dust control.

  • I tell you what, that's incredibly kind. I am SE, will PM now. Obviously recompense in booze/treats of choice.

  • Been dreading putting this up, but it's done.

  • Looks nice.

    BluTak? 😉

  • Pretty much. No more nails and screws into board spanning the joists.

  • Holes filled and edges caulked

  • Nice :), reminds me of the front room of my old house in Didsbury :)

  • That looks so good, I really need to do this on our new house.

  • That’s a banging light too.

  • Ms_com found it on eBay, picked it up from a super rich older couple in Mayfair. It had hung in the gentleman's study since the 70's. One of the various trades we've had in cracked one of the shades unfortunately.

  • You'd have to get it tested to see whats in it, loads of people just skim over them now to avoid the removal of it.

  • Fireplace progress. Still waiting for the oak trim to arrive to go around the edge of the (fiddly bastard) mosaic tiles. Carpet fitters coming on Thursday. Hoping to rip up the old laminate and underlay and get the room ply boarded in time. Well, I'll have to.

  • I want to do something about the ugly fence between our house and the street. This wood is unsalvageable right?

  • It’s hard to tell. Get a wire brush on it and if it all just brushes away, yes, it’s fucked. If it doesn’t, you could slap on some wet rot hardener after brushing, fill and paint a jaunty colour.

  • If it’s not rotten just hitting it with a pressure washer on a low setting will improve it.

  • Can't get anyone to plaster around here for the foreseeable unfortunately. If it was straight forward and the finish underneath was ok, I'd be tempted to do it myself.

@umop3pisdn @konastab01 - House was built in '99 so assumed it should be asbestos free.

  • Looks super neat well done! I'm tempted to try and tile mine, would you say it's an alright job?

  • I cant mind when they stopped my parents house the ceiling have asbestos in it and they were built it in 95.

  • Every job is a can of worms. Tearing down a corrugated polycarbonate roof, only to discover that where the nails have rusted through, the wood has rotted! Should have started this job earlier in the day!

  • Carpets - any view on whether sisal carpet (for a stair runnner) can be 'whipped' rather than 'ribboned'? Different suppliers saying different things.
