This is going to come across as a bit strange, but if it is for cutting bread I have made one of these with the blade from a bow saw.

Get him an electric carving knife, he’ll realise they are not very good eventually.
I mean, serrated knives for cutting meat shouldn’t be allowed, but I can understand why you might want one for sourdoughs with rock solid crusts.
Accidents with electric serrated knives are likely to be a lot worse than stabbing yourself lightly with a normal knife though.
