A beard prevents a good seal on the face which renders the mark useless as the air will just flow through the gaps rather than the filter as it’s a path of much lower air resistance. I have to shave mine off before doing any dusty work for this reason.
If you can’t shave your beard off you’ll want to get a full face thing. Couple people I’ve worked with had this style and seemed to rate them.

Are any of these masks any good if you have a beard or are you a bit screwed anyway in that case?
