  • Might possibly be tempted; presumably they've been built up?

  • YES!!! Thank you

  • how much use?

  • I have a seat post mounted one, new unused or two rack style mount ones that either don't light up very bright but standby works, or standby by doesn't work but it lights up fine.

  • Very much interested in the seat post one
    I'll pm in a bit

  • Built up, yeah.
    @Thrasher About 4000km

Just one left. PM me if you're interested.

  • Looks like it could be a good city light contender!

  • I had an Eyc on my bakfiets; dunno if this is an upgraded version, but it was a great city light - did good duty on unlit park paths as well.

  • Planning a singular peregrine build and looking for a front light recommendation (ideally with USB) that will be bright enough to light paths in the pitch black. Hub will be son I think. Any recommendations on here? Thinking sinewave beacon.

Not sure if I need a rear dynamo (would this need a rear dynamo hub or can you route it from the front?) Any thoughts?

    Cheers

  • Front dynamo, would power both, rear light is wired from the front light!

  • ah that makes sense cheers

  • Make sure you get a son 28 not the deluxe.

The beacon is great, but I’d go for an individual light with a sinewave revelation

  • so would you unplug the light and charge the pack whilst riding with the revelation? new to all of this!

  • For a SON hub you can use a piggyback connector!

  • I have a Beacon on one bike and a B&M IQ-X on another. Both offer plenty of brightness but the Beacon certainly starts flickering a lot more at low speeds. One benefit of the Beacon is of course that you can plug in a cache battery and that will supplement the light. You pretty much need such a battery for the usb charging from the light as well because a lot of devices won't like the fluctuations in power so people often use the light to charge a cache battery in the day and then use the battery to charge devices or supplement the light when needed.

  • I dual-wire mine. So wire both the light and the revolution USB-charger in. Switch the light on when needed, unplug the battery pack when it's charged. Easy.

  • There is an interesting article in the most recent issue of Bicycle Quarterly with some of their testing comparing the Beacon, IQ-X and Edelux II.

Conclusion is that for road riding the Beacon performs particularly poorly in terms of beam shape and lux at 10m compared to the other two. The IQ-X is generally brighter than the Edelux-II, but does draw more power and has a slightly poorer beam shape.

  • Haven't installed yet on my girlfriends bike. It is indeed tiny. The upper piece is actually aluminium (of course planning to remove the paint) and lower piece plastic. I'm not sure about the waterproofness and will add some silicone between the two pieces.

  • I am very tempted to buy K-lite dynamo light (the off-road version).
I read @skinny review but I was wondering if anyone else went for these.

I do struggle a lot with night vision and I would like to get more exposed to MTB trails without jumping into a river or a Marianne trench...

  • I had cars flashing with their headlights towards me while I was riding on an unlit road using my Klite off-road. The amount of light it produces is massive.

The light is at max brightness above 6-7 km per hour, when you combine it with charging a battery pack the max brightness starts at about 14 km per hour.

  • the newer beacons from the last year or so should have solbved the flickering at low speed issues.

  • Conclusion is that for road riding the Beacon performs particularly poorly in terms of beam shape

well yeah of course, Jan doesn't sell the Beacon...

  • Indeed. Thought did cross my mind. Also the test were run by schmidt.

However to be honest they doesn’t sell the iq-x and we’re very complimentary.
