One of my oldest mates bought one last year, he hasn't ridden a bike since he was a kid... He commutes to Kensington from Streatham ever day on it and he is loving it... The lower price point is what attracted him, I reckon he'll be buying another bike soon so I'll send him your way... 😉

“My gears are playing up a little….”
Fuck the parts washer, this one’s going to need sandblasting.

My old commute, also (well maybe it would take a while longer to get like that). It's why I prefer the SA 3-speed hub, the two-speed derailleur is so exposed to grime in those conditions.

Literally every 2 speed Brompton owner issues…

Yes, it is a shame they couldn't sort this out for the new range (e.g., fitting a super strong derailleur return spring with sealed bearings to its pivot), rather than just changing the names of the bikes :-(

Looking good!

I concur.
I did recently build one with a tiparts anchorage, spring and DR, and it was so much better.

In my opinion the E brompton is the best brompton. I got a flat bar brompton when I first moved to bath and under power it’s a piece of spaghetti.
With the power from the motor helping it gets you the same speed without all the fixes running through the frame.
Sold outs as we moved to the sticks now but would buy another in a heartbeat if I went back to the city.

Cheers for the potential referral but please point him to SJS instead, our allocation quota have all been spoken for and next year's numbers will be pretty much the same.

£2995 from scratch? Ans how much with discs. So much want...
-
• #10442
that orange one? £2995, with discs you can add £2k as you need a different drivechain like alfine or rohloff

Possibly topical - just did a diy job on my seatpost after finally admitting defeat on the extended version. Chopped the top off, cut the slot, 1 x 27.2-27.9 mm cane creek shim, 1 x generic 31.8 mm seatpost clamp, 1 x old 27.2 mm seatpost, done in 15 mins :)

I think I’ve worn out my rear rim, it has a 3sp hub. Should I just buy another rim and DIY?—if so, which rim, and will I need new spokes? If it’s a terrible idea, where would be a good place to get it done properly, within reasonable walking travel time—say a couple of hours—from Stratford?

You need a double wall angle drilled, assuming not older single wall.
Pretty sure I have a spare if you message me

Nice job!
Only thing I'd do different is to drill a hole at the end of the slot, I tried just slotting some stems when I started making them and found that they didn't nip up as well as ones with a hole at the end of the slot.
The post will be a different wall thickness than the tubing I was using though so maybe you'll be fine.
