Following this my pants down… love it!

That paint is great. Fun build incoming I reckon!

getting other bits from Bike24 anyway.
Huge flex atm. Can’t get anything from them because of the B. Builds going to be good. Proper fork crown :)

Oh wow, they won't ship? Is that all EU retailers or just their policy? Huge bummer :(
I don't use bike24 often but some stuff like dynamo lights, wheel building parts and tools like Unior are literally half the price as here in the US even with postage.

Wasn't someone else on here also building on of these pink crusts?

Subbed.
This is going to be great. Just looking at it I feel the need for a big tyre fixed gar. -

That's the plan. Just waiting for rims to ship and my LBS to confirm the rear hub, then can order spokes and all the rest in one go. And hope it doesn't all wind up on the next Evergiven.
In the mean time, besides moving house, I'll get the fork drilled. A public library nearby has a maker-space attached and they have a big ol drill press so I can try to be precise with it.

Pah, retailer took my order for rims then admitted they have no stock. Expecting a shipment end of October which could mean anything this far out. Rear hub missed the September ETA too so no idea on that. Not really surprised.
Drilling the fork tomorrow but then nothing happening until November-ish.

Frame is forum logo colours, very good

This looks ridiculous, in the best way.

Love that paint! Can’t wait to see this built.

Whew. Seems on point. Eyeballed the centering then touched off and got a nice even ring, then fed through the whole 1/4" smooth as. 8mm recessed nut fits snug in the new 5/16" hole without any tweaks.
I was thinking about rust protection since I just drilled out the paint. Brain only got as far as frame saver spray + lots of grease when installing.

Hah, yes I noticed.
Excited for this build, but back to waiting for Surly & Pacenti parts now.

2 hubs are better than 1. Getting closer. Just waiting for the Pacenti rims to arrive (or not). Retailer was expecting a shipment "end of october" and is inquiring but no news yet. Got a goofy VO stem on ebay so I spent today doing the steerer. Back to waiting again..

I'm pretty sure the brake caliper arms will hit the rack brace when they're connected up so that piece probably has to go. Was thinking of taking one of the arms from a topeak rear rack extension kit and modifying to replace this rack brace, going underneath the caliper instead of over the top.

No idea how I missed this thread, sounds like it’s going to look fantastic.

I could really use it right now! Not a lot of rim options with 700c/32h/polished/tubeless constraints.
Could switch to the Velocity rim and pay double. Or switch to the VO and put 180g on each wheel for no apparent reason (and lose the machined brake track). How on earth do you make a 600g+ shallow rim??

Why specifically tubeless. Just ghetto it.
Also, awesome build this. -

Go quill. Supposed to be lovely rims and hard to get in the uk (like the frame the build is based around). Also wider than pacenti.
Did wonder if someone in the uk could get you some 32h brevets and send them on but they do seem sold out everywhere…

Whew, just got an update: rims are in the country now. Just need to get through port/warehouse etc logistics. So rest of the gear ordered to match.
Planned secula rear light went out of stock while waiting so going to put a different light on the rear dropout instead.
-
• #22
Which secula did you have in mind, mudguard one or stays?
-
• #23
Excellent news. FWIW I have brevets and am very happy with them. I wanted Quills though, and there were none available in 650b :(
-
• #24
There was a seat post option secula, so that one. Instead I'm going to make a bracket for the road-side rear dropout and put a BM Line Small on it.

Interested to see how you do this. I've botched a secula onto my longitude and it looks rubbish, I'd much rather have one of the tiny B&M lights on there.
I always liked the paint on this Florida Man frameset. But I'm not the n+1 type and two (road and gravel) bikes covered all my bases so far. However 2021 brings a move to an apartment in a nearby city that has actual bike paths and accessible shopping so bike errands are possible, so I want an all weather shopper as we head into winter.
I moved to the US in 2015, just in time to see the rise of Trump first hand, and while his ilk are down for now I don't want to be here for the next round of bastards. When I eventually leave, this bike will make a fun souvenir of my time here. I miss the lanes and the pubs and the NHS.
In contrast to the other bikes, this will have mostly silver parts, zero carbon, and something I never thought I'd see again.. a rim brake. I've cursed Crust numerous times already for not putting the Bombora disc fork on this frame as it would be easier, cheaper, and better in every way but it is what it is.
I've got most of the parts except bars and wheels. Need to get closer to moving date so I can order remaining parts delivered to the new address.
So far:
Old Shimano cranks and a Salsa 40t ring.
Random 17t cog and a Surly lockring.
Soma inline post and an old Fizik Twin-flex (aka Aliante?) saddle.
Ritchey classic headset
Random short-pull bmx lever
Paul Components Racer front caliper. Will need to drill the fork for the recessed bolt (Paul aren't taking any more orders on this brake so the non-recessed version isn't an option).
American Classic Aggregate 700x40 tires - cheap and knobby.
Silver Issi "SPD" pedals
A very pretty Crane copper bell.
Planned:
Surly / SP PV-8 / Pacenti Brevet wheelset.
Ritchey classic 10° bars and a Kalloy Uno stem.
B+M lights since I'm getting other bits from Bike24 anyway.
Front rack and basket, once I know the front geometry and clearance around the brake caliper.
