  • OK, I've entered two:
one from Honeybourne at end of November and Tewkesbury the following weekend. It will be weather dependent. Honeybourne looks like it can be done from Ealing with no cycle reservations.
I won't book tickets until nearer the time when I see what the weather is looking like and when I've worked out if I take/what to take/how to carry camping gear.

It's great having something to look forward to (or dread).

There are another couple that caught my eye but I ruled out - the Bristol overnighter on 19 Nov and 200 from Droitwich on 13 Nov. The Bristol one would be a laugh if not too cold but it is full. The Droitwich one is good timing but the route comes back towards London and I hate the idea of that - I only want to do rides that start where they start and then go further away from London.

  • They both look interesting. That second one even more so with its AAA points (if I'm going to do AAARRTY I need to keep an eye on those).

I was looking at this: https://audax.uk/event-details?eventId=9407 for a Nov 200k with AAA but it starts from "Llanbadarn Fawr, Aberystwyth" which is 360k ride, 4-5hr drive or 10hrs!!! on trains.

So maybe I should just do one of Dave's DIY AAA routes. But I want to go further afield and I prefer to do calendar events than just tapping out miles of Chilterns for some arbitrary goal.

I'd penciled in the Droitwich one too as I've not done that before (it doesn't even come back to Oxford so it's not like it's London bound but I get what you mean).
