Previously I’ve cut the centre of the guard out to sit around the seat tube, wrapped the tube in tape and it’s been good. If you sneak up on the cut and make it a touch fit, it looks better than ok and is water tight. One had too little left after the work so I glued a spoke inside each side on the return. Hope that makes sense. (No pics as they are loooong gone)

Cheers both, probably right about clearance being too tight so I'll hunt down a half link. Hadn't even considered using the canti posts so thanks for that.
