I don't even think ancient woodlands are that "fragile"
I'm guessing it is not necessarily just about the trees but the rare lichens etc that are within the ecosystem that hammock straps & footfall could damage.

That's a decent shout. But still - how useful is ancient woodland so delicate no one can go in?
Still can't see hammock camping becoming those lichens most pressing challenge given the rate the climate seems to changing.
I've not been to Dartmoor in a while, but I've been struck by how significantly less boggy the Black Mountains in Wales have been on my last couple of trips.
So, the lichen will die and less people will have seen them before they do would be my prediction. Happy Friday.
Has anyone ever killed a tree with a hammock?
Things like this seem bonkers to me- ancient woodland or not. Of all the threats to ancient woodland in this country, the tiny number of people spending the odd night in a hammock should not appear high on the list. I don't even think ancient woodlands are that "fragile" - there is a reason they are ancient! You've just got to not massively fuck with them / chop them down*.
