my first "proper" job aged 16 (1997) was at a freight forwarding company as their IT intern but they also expected me to work on filling the trailers.
on friday evenings everyone was expected to work 3 hours overtime (unpaid and not on the employment contract) to fill all the remaining container space with discounted shipments for the weekend.
the concessions they made to the staff for literally ruining their weekend was they'd order about £40 worth of chineses food (for about 15 people) and they let all the smokers smoke at their desk of which there were many.
so not only did i miss going out with my mates every friday, I'd not have a proper dinner and i'd leave absolutely reeking of stale cigarette smoke with a sore throat.
