  • I'm guessing that @bq is referring to a 3M 7502 mask. This is meant to protect from the inhalation of inorganic chems. IANAChemist, but while I'm sure it is better than nothing, I don't know how effective it is at protecting from cooked lead fumes.

  • I've only got a 2nd chair to do so prob won't get the lamp but good to know a differnt way I didn't know they existed.

  • Very cool stuff. I do a lot of CAD but have never properly fabricated my work.

I have a WW2 Boley lathe but it is lever operated. I am not sure you can get the same precision and can't find much online about them

  • As BQ already mentioned they are recommended for lead based paint removal. If you have young children or pregnant adults around then look up best practice for handling the dust and paint that you have removed. It's mostly common sense but it's worth the extra care. Certainly with the lamps you get a whiff of smoke from time to time but mostly it just bubbles up and scrapes off very easly.

  • Made these for my living room, got three ceiling lights up there so made these fittings from an aluminium scaffold tube and turned them up in the lathe to hold a ceramic bulb holder.

The bulbs are CALEX smart bulbs, first bit of smart anything I’ve bought but they’re pretty cool. Can dim and change colour temp, come on automatically after sunset etc.

I’ve also got some shades I made ages ago to go with them. I made a whole hanging system with a ceiling roses where it all slots together really easily. Just need to make a few but in the meantime I’m happy with them bare like this.

  • I'll ask in here....
I've got two nice big tote bags, they're ace. But the inner lining is well smashed up and shit.
Can a new more resistant liner be stitched in?

  • yes, should be doable. the sewing thread might also be a good place to ask. i'd do it for you but i'm not nearby

  • Not sure where else to post this. 32 digit display.

  • Long/Lat then year, month, day, hour, min, sec, 10ths

  • That's great. Love it

  • Did this over last couple of days

    From this

    To this

Over did it a bit in places with the angle grinder but I'm quite pleased how it turned out.

  • I have some of those.
    Hammerite was my friend.

  • still need to do the interiors of the draws, did you just respray or strip back to raw.

  • It was a long time ago but I'm pretty sure that I just painted over the top, having first wiped it down with some sort of degreasant. The drawer interiors remain in their original colour.
ETA - they've been kind of OK over the last 35 years - with minimal chippage. How much work do you want to make for yourself?
ETFA - I tend to go for the 'What's the minimum I can get away with to make this stuff work?' approach

  • Very nice - have you treated the bare metal at all?

  • Yes, he took it out to dinner twice.

  • 1st time it was posh a place the 2nd time it was KFC... I'm classy

  • Not yet gave it a good soaking in metal polish gonna just leave it in think. Unsure of options to treat it.

  • Kebab house closed by the Council again? Thank you for reminding me of the cabinet of shame, which I rattlecanned only 20 years ago.....

  • Made a few oak bowls/pots using the megabit

  • Walls are a bit thick, but there are cracks in the wood so was scared of it rapidly disassembling if I went thinner

  • Kebab is only for very special occasions.

  • We got a new shade of mirror at work, doing the first ball with it for a client. First coloured mirror I actually like(and the glass is nice to cut/work with which always helps). I think it’s bronze? It’s certainly not gold, rose or orange..
Ball is only a 1m diameter. Was really hoping to do a big fucker for the first one in this shade.
