My TT bike, so replacement cost of the frameset £4.5k. Add in all the custom bullshit, flash wheels, etc and it's probably £10k or more to replace.
-
• #1028
Ah! Might be worth checking cost of contents insurance for your cheaper bikes and then specialist bike insurance for the TT sled.

Yeah, that's the problem isn't it? Searching through the fineprint on stuff like max item cover and whether or not they're covered in use or locked up or in a car or whatever on a bunch of insurance websites. I'm not sure I've got the willpower :)
Because I've got old but flash bikes they might've only cost a couple of grand 14 years ago but to replace them now would cost £8k or some nonsense.

Give the NFU a call to see if they'll offer you cover, we've got 6 bikes insured some around the £10k mark and they've got no problem with it. I've claimed for a crash, baggage handler damage and one falling off the back of the car.

Anyone have a Laka referral code? Thinking of signing up so might as well help someone out!
Adding to this if anyone recommends any higher let me know, I’ve only really looked into Laka and Bikmo
-
• #1032
I do: https://my.laka.co/F4GJ4
I haven't had to claim but like how easy it is to add / remove bikes and turn the policy on and off.

I've claimed with Laka recently and would recommend them as insurers. Great communication and they transferred the cash very quickly.

Anyone have any thoughts on Bikmo?
Also any discount codes?
Cheers -

Can't help with Bikmo but here's a code for £25 credit for laka: https://my.laka.co/?r=IFWOZ
They've always been great, really good claims process, easy to list bikes in minutes even if they're custom.

Thanks for that, but I can’t get my head around laka’s premium costs Minimum/ maximum I can’t be doing with moving goalposts, really doesn’t sit well in my world :/

There's some fluctuation but I've never seen a big sway, I understand that any sway could be problematic on an individual basis though.

Is Laka still a recommended option for bike insurance? Mostly for cover when the bikes are at home as we're moving them into a shed in our garden soon. The additional covers are just an added benefit depending on which insurer we go with. Will be for me and my partner and easier if we're on the same policy I'd think.

I use Bikmo and they are great.

My bikes have temporarily got to go into storage - shipping container. Bikmo doesn’t cover, any tips on who might cover them? About £6k worth…
-
• #1042
Laka will cover your bikes in a locked shed at home: https://laka.co/gb/help/what-is-meant-by-home/.
If you do choose Laka then here's my code for £25 credit which I'll benefit from too haha.

I wonder who the Hh velodrome folks usually use. Could give them a buzz.
-
• #1044
That code didn't work - will use it but just links to the Laka homepage. Thanks!

Laka agreed to cover me when I used those bike hamgers, seem to remember something about distance from your home coming into it, worth calling them.
Thank you to the person that used my referral code this month, really appreciate it.

Update, spoken to Ollie at Laka and they consider a locked shipping container secure private storage. Cancelled Bikmo (after many happy years and a couple of easy claims), now with Laka. Thanks for the recc @Cazakstan

Yep I ended up going with Laka. They looked to work for everything we need them for so happy with it all in. I got the £25 referral bonus, but I've no idea who's from. My only guess is I'd clicked on a link on here a while ago that saved in my cache when I went back onto the laka site to sign up properly this time around. I'm hoping it's ended up going to someone that it will be useful for, @Settle could possibly have been yours who knows.
If anyone wants to save my link in their cache for a future sign up you're welcome to https://my.laka.co/8UF6R

I've got insurance with them, for mine, and my missus's bikes
referral code gets you 5% off your insurance. They were fine when my bike was stolen at beginning of pandemic, quick pay out, no hassle, just a couple of forms to be filled in, replied to a couple of emails, and took some photo's of the scene.

No worries glad you got sorted!

Anyone have experience of the "maximum value" cover on bolt on home insurance policies? I just added cheap pedal cover to my JL home insurance which gives me a replacement up to the value of £500 on any bike nicked outside the house. Not much good for our nicer bikes but thinking for £15 a year it's worth it for our commuters that occasionally get locked up.
I haven't had the paper work through yet but i'm assuming i would have to give them proof of the value of the nicked bike and then they'll provide me with a new bike worth up to £500? As they're not specialist bike insurers valuation might be tricky as these are non OTP builds so i'll take photos of all the parts that can be priced. Not exactly a great choice out there at £500 but i'm guessing people take the best bike they can get with these kind of policies then flip them to get some cash toward a new build?
Depends what very expensive is?
I recently switched from YJ to Barclays contents with bike cover. Way cheaper and cover bikes up to 5 grand a piece. They even made an addition to the policy to cover the bikes in the car and supposedly locked to a bike rack on the car.
