The Maurten is 80g of carb? The SIS says 22g of carb. Is it fair to say overall you're taking about 9 gels equivalent, dissolved in about a litre of fluid? Seems a far easier way to consume the carbs than faffing with so many gels.

I’ve just bought a biolite 750, it’s an absolute beast.

I’ve used the OTE super gels a few times recently, they pack approximately twice the calories of a standard gel so you don’t have to carry as many.

Just googled, looks ace.

Well that’s part of the advantage of Maurten is it’s more efficiently delivering what you need I think so maybe a bit unfair. Really best advice is find out what works for you (brand/caffeine/frequency) and go with that.

Hadn't seen these, thanks. They do a 80g carb drink mix too.
Will aim to try Maurten, OTE and SIS Beta sachets.

If you wanna try some Maurten I have some which has just expired (Not sure what there is to expire!). Can stick one in the post

Running is slowly making me fall apart. Groin strain and back pain this week. Not even hammering it either
-
• #26636
Running is very hard on the body - it’s the stuff we do around it that really helps s&c, swimming, stretching, eating and sleeping well.

Are you still running 4x similar runs per week?

I think Maurten has different strategies for different pace runners can’t recall how different they are but I do wonder whether the nutrition requirements are different for a 2 hour runner and a 4 hour runner…
My one decent marathon I had 1 bottle of murten 320 and 5 gels which is a lot, but then my fastest km was the last one… so certainly didn’t hurt too much!
Not sure what’s going on with my running, after 6 weeks of steady build up to 60k per week had an easier week and then had a crack at a 5k set off hoping for around 19:30, but by 500m my heart rate was already 180 and ended up with 21:33… can only assume that the sniffle and sore throat I’ve had for a couple of days is having more of an effect on me but really hurts motivation to get out and go again this week!

Yes I’ve been running 4x5miles per week. With yoga once and stretching well after each run.
I’ve not been sleeping brilliantly for some reason. I see to wake up at about 0200-0400 for no reason and then take ages to get back to sleep.

Went to a new physio yesterday.
Was told I should definitely start running again.
So went running this morning.
My knee held up find (lungs not so much).
But I did develop a migraine.
Which is a novelty for me, as far as running injuries go.

Might it be worth shaking up the routine? Add a mile to a day you have a rest day after, take a mile off the day when you ran the day before? Or something to that effect.
-
• #26642
I think that’s a great idea. I do fancy going for a bike ride too just to mix things up

That's very kind. I'll message you to take you up on that.

Yes, I was going to post their elite strategy TM. Mad amount of sachets and gels. My previous mara is 3.30 so I'd be happy after 2 years off from mara's to be around that time. Decided not to follow a plan (have done Pfitz and Higdon ones before), just enjoy the training, like I am now and slowly ramp up the weekend long run.

I contacted each of Maurten, SIS, OTE to ask for a single sample of their carb drink. OTE said "no problem, we'll send you one", SIS gave me free 1 day postage and a discount on their high carb gel 6 pack, Maurten said "no, but you can buy a sachet somewhere, here's a list". I'm inclined to favour OTE currently and supplement with SIS, just hope it sits ok in the stomach.

OMM Langdale this weekend and the weather looks awful. Also, I haven't done enough training. Is there an honourable way out?
-
• #26647
I thought the worse the weather is for OMM the better.
-
• #26648
If it’s good enough for the Brownlee brothers…I’m a big fan of the OTE stuff, I’ve never had any problems.
-
• #26649
Does anyone have a circa £50 rain jacket suggestion?
I am wet.
-
• #26650
Well. The OMM has been cancelled.
Hope you saw the cheaper link @SideshowBob shared too?
Fwiw: Fell Running Guide is reviewing some of the Nitecore Headtorches, seems to rate them as good too.
