  • Strong TT game

  • What's the Perreaux phono like? I'd love to try the integrated in that range too.

  • What is the little lamp you have? I am after something similar.

  • It sounds fantastic. I've only compared it to my old stuff that was significantly cheaper, moon lp3 and a little rega phono. So of course it should, and I got a very good price s/h. Being made here perreaux stuff is better value than stuff from overseas.
I've heard the big perreux integrateds a few times, and they are very good.

  • It's one of these. It dims down to red which is cool.

  • Love the accuphase.

every now and then i look for one and then get surprised by how much they cost!

  • Well jel. Obvs a very different turntable, but I regret selling the Garrard SP25 I had for a while.

  • My beloved 30-year-old B&W DM620i floor standers may have finally had their day.
They survived many a house party and a lot of jungle over the years but one of the tweeters has recently dulled, I switched over the good one to confirm it wasn't the amp or source.
Can the cap/crossover be the issue?

  • If you switched a good one into the cab and it sounded fine you've not got a problem with the crossover.

  • It didn't, the good one still sounded muffled.

  • Sheesh that's pretty.

  • The crossover is a network of filters so I guess it could be a problem in the crossover. I've been lucky enough not to have the problem (yet!)

  • could also be the ferrofluid drying out (if its a ferrofluid tweeter that is...)

  • @Dogtemple. Nah the tweeters are fine so it must be the crossovers.
My excuse to buy new speakers.

Current gear Technics 1200GR with Ortofon Black & Pioneer A605R 120w amp.
Thinking either Bowers & Wilkins 603 S2 Anniversary Edition or Klipsch rp 6000f.
ps. If I get a divorce it would be Klipsch La Scalas.

  • Always Loved the klipsch copper cones.

  • Why these two? They're not really in the same league - right? Well, based on U.S. pricing anyway.

  • I’ve heard / like the sound of both of them and they are a similar size (the biggest I can get away with). Plus only £200 between them.

  • not exactly lookers though are they?
guess they might work with a huge leather sofa, a glass fronted beer fridge, fertility mask on the wall and a huge watercooled/neon lit gaming PC in the corner.

  • Ah, fair. $700 difference where I live. Klipsch are only $699 per speaker.

I would agree that they're not exactly the nicest looking speakers out there. Nothing used at that price range that is significantly nicer?

  • I’ve not taken my speaker grilles off in 30 years so looks aren’t really a factor tbh, just the size and sound.

  • if I wanted to run some speaker cable behind a wood burner, would this be suitable? and would this do one speaker (or just one channel on that speaker)?

  • would this do one speaker (or just one channel on that speaker)?

You could potentially get two channels (e.g. a stereo pair or bass & treble in an active 2-way speaker) by using the outer case as a common ground. If you do this, make sure your common ground is at ground potential and not just the inverse of the positive.

If you're thinking the local ambient temperature is going to be too high for normal cable, you want to ditch the PVC coating, either strip it off or buy uncoated MICC cable.

PTFE cable will withstand 250C and doesn't involve the specialised termination arrangement required to keep the MI inside MICC cables at the open ends. Also, MICC is messy and difficult to cut to length compared with polymer insulated wire.

  • Does anyone know who I'd speak to If I wanted a pair of floorstanding speaker cabinets painted to a really high quality finish? Possibly a high gloss white.

Just looking at a pair for sale with a little bit of corner damage to the veneer and wondering about options for fixing them up.

Google seems to just point to lots of diy projects.

  • I’d be googling “wet paint” or bespoke kitchen makers.
