Your dad sounds like almost every committee member of every rugby club I ever played for, the sort of men who would never appear unshaven at breakfast. They were always pretty decent and good for a round for the players, win or lose. I once heard one refer to the new members of their golf club as 'wideboys and spivs', hard to argue with this summary of the average golferist.
The funniest thing about this thread is the contrast between LFGSS Golf Club talk and my dad, who is old school golf clubist/rugby unionist with the matching dark blue jag and politics.
For the golfing style mavens: brokendaddy gets his clothes from M&S, won't wear jeans at all ("workwear!") and the nearest he gets to a visible brand is a jumper with his club's crest on ("Why would I pay to advertise a designer? They should pay me!")
