When I first built the bike (2013) I didn't have a reamer and before being able to borrow one I cycled to Copenhagen and back +200km with seat post only partially into the seat tube. The seat tube is OD28.6 and OD27.2 so really thin wall. It obviously buckled a bit from the distortion.
When I redid the rear end after returning from the UK (2019) I thought my wishbone solution would be strong enough to hold the seat post as the wishbone actually covered the buckle in the tube. But the walls were really thin and the guy who painted it blew threw the tube with his grit. That meant I had to do that quill seatpost solution which was alright initially, but it moved a bit back and forth in the tube. Because the seat tube was already so mangled a new crack appeared from the movement.
New seat tube is much beefier being OD32mm and ID 29.8
Also I don't undcut my filing as much anymore as I did back then..
Neat! Do you know what caused the crack?
