• Could you be clever and have the top half for hanging stuff then and open shelf and low half (or 1/3) for drawers? That would totally work if your walls can take the floating top part.

  • yes - current thinking is to just copy the first image I posted:

    • top will be a wardrobe with hanging (it would have to be a front-to-back telescopic rail due to depth issues) + open shelving at the bottom

    • bottom of alcove will be a two drawer bedside table.

    there's some issues to work around though (principally to do with space): (i) depth of alcove is a constraint; and, (ii) width of bed is a constraint (i.e. it is slightly wider than the chimney breast) and so any cabinetry has to be designed to not foul the bed
