• yeah - inclined to agree. I like the first pics I posted because of the bedside table but if I was to go for that scheme, the wardrobes would be significantly more shallow and so compromise storage. am erring towards the bedside table scheme though, as storage not paramount (because it is only for the secondary bedroom.)

I wonder if you could put a little cut out into the side of the deeper wardrobes in scheme 2, to give you some phone/book/coffee space - expect this is v tricky otherwise they'd have done it on the above house (which had the money gun shot at it)

will talk through internal schemes with the joiner

  • Could you be clever and have the top half for hanging stuff then and open shelf and low half (or 1/3) for drawers? That would totally work if your walls can take the floating top part.

  • yes - current thinking is to just copy the first image I posted:

    • top will be a wardrobe with hanging (it would have to be a front-to-back telescopic rail due to depth issues) + open shelving at the bottom

    • bottom of alcove will be a two drawer bedside table.

there's some issues to work around though (principally to do with space): (i) depth of alcove is a constraint; and, (ii) width of bed is a constraint (i.e. it is slightly wider than the chimney breast) and so any cabinetry has to be designed to not foul the bed
