Annoying! No place for anything bedside related - clock, book, phone etc.

Yep, deeply annoying. Roll over in the night, headbutt a wardrobe. Sounds like fun.

With this I would bring the bed out ~6 inches and have some kind of shallow storage groove/cubby the width of the bed behind the headboard. Somewhere to shove your book/hidden sockets to charge phone, etc.
