This whole process is terrible, I feel like I am being investigated by the STASI ca. 1986 and
don't even know why. -
• #128
I just refused to fill it out. They're closing my account. I'm moving. Simples.

Please also bear in mind that the appointments in themselves can last up to 45 minutes.

Sounds like the EC1 Collective registration process

You're going to struggle to find anywhere that doesn't do all these checks nowadays, it's not really optional.
At my place (not a bank but still finance related) the Anti-money laundering and know your client department is about 6 times bigger than ten years ago due to all the extra rules.

I have a mortgage with another bank so will probably just move there since they already know shit about me. Anything else they ask that I deem too intrusive I will 'be creative' about.
-
• #133
I would think HSBC knows shit about me since I had my accounts there for 14 years.
-
• #134
Can I speed up the process by saying my savings are from a prostitution ring in Bulgaria?
-
• #135
I've been with them near that personally and business banking a bit less. Their actions are enough to make me move.
-
• #136
Is prostitution legal in Bulgaria? Should be fine if so.
-
• #137
I was just thinking they might be more familiar with that kind of business. Savings from employment probably raises suspicion.

Move banks - It took me nearly 8 months to get our Company through the HSBC safeguard process. The level of incompetence they display is staggering.
Oh and if you do decide to go through the process make sure you get call references for every call. They completely lost the first set of data we provided them.
-
• #139
Argh, just went through a 80min call with them. What a nightmare and they say they might repeat it every 1 to 5 years.

Not sure if right thread but here goes... anyone using Revolut?
A couple of friends swear by it, I’d like to wire money to a US $ account and this all seems too good to be true. -
• #141
Revolut user, really like it, started off using it to buy crypto from American exchanges, then for travel money and now as a regular debit card. I can't fault them, app is great and everything happens very fast, sometimes my phone even beeps with the transaction details before the chip and pin machine says transaction successful. Only negative is the low foreign ATM withdrawal rate,I came across starling bank recently and they seem a good alternative if you plan to withdraw a lot at an ATM abroad
-
• #142
Any of big banks out there using standard 2FA methods instead of their own dongles or their own apps?
-
• #143
Ok looking to set up a mondo/revolut/starling account or even monese linked to a paypal account so any money in that account can be moved to the account and then removed so paypal can't get it if a sale goes tits.
What would you go for and why.
-
• #144
What does paypal normally do if the money has been moved to a linked bank account? Try and debit the linked bank account? Because if that's the case, then won't the same thing happen to Monzo etc? Or is the idea to then empty that account? Seems it would be easier to have a paypal account that's not linked to a bank account.

I got a sainsburys credit which it turns out doesn't support google pay. This is a pretty big blocker to me as I want to be able to pay for as much stuff as possible using my phone.
Is cancelling an unused credit card going to affect my credit score in any way?
-
• #146
I'm considering cancelling all my direct debits from my personal account and then just switching them to our joint account when they come chasing. I've been working on swapping them for an hour now and haven't managed to change a single one.
Is this a really bad idea or just a standard bad idea?
-
• #147
There’s a ‘current account switch service’ which may be able to move everything over for you
-
• #148
I think that's more for switching your while account over which I'm not really looking at doing.
-
• #149
Wanting to change from Barclays as they are cunts, any suggestions of a bank that isn't run by cunts. Have a current account and 2 savings accounts on it.

I've been with Nationwide for 21 years. Are they cunts?
If it's one of their secure messages it will be in your normal banking secure message location right, so just login and don't click any shit.
