It's just another one of those display pieces that LEGO's been doing a lot of. Quite a lot of people seem to enjoy a LEGO one-off so they can put it on their mantelpiece/wherever.
All Lego recently has been a one off, that's how they sell them.
The last time I saw multiple build instructions was the first lego Technic car.
Yeah. That is the gap between kid stuff and new stuff.
By 'one-off' I meant that people who don't normally buy LEGO buy something as a one-off to display somewhere. It's one aspect of how LEGO has expanded its appeal into model-making, i.e. where people might have done a Revell kit in the past and put that somewhere, now they can do the same with LEGO.
