It's just another one of those display pieces that LEGO's been doing a lot of. Quite a lot of people seem to enjoy a LEGO one-off so they can put it on their mantelpiece/wherever.
All Lego recently has been a one off, that's how they sell them.
The last time I saw multiple build instructions was the first lego Technic car.
Yeah. That is the gap between kid stuff and new stuff.

Lego have a Creator 3in1 theme, currently with 28 sets, where each set has instructions for 3 things.

They don't have the detail of the bigger and more expensive models that Lego are mostly targeting at adults but they are great sets.

I quite liked the 3in1 shark set I got recently, so I got another one to have multiple sea creatures!

Also this set is £17.50 in Morrisons at the moment, which is decent over retail https://www.johnlewis.com/lego-classic-11002-basic-brick-set/p3910280?

By 'one-off' I meant that people who don't normally buy LEGO buy something as a one-off to display somewhere. It's one aspect of how LEGO has expanded its appeal into model-making, i.e. where people might have done a Revell kit in the past and put that somewhere, now they can do the same with LEGO.

In this case, it seems as if the initiative was Fender's, as there's also one from Mega Construx (minus the amp), so perhaps Fender approached both companies.

It looks better largely because they've gone for a single-piece scratchplate.
A comparison:

I find them both odd because they're so small.
