  • When I did my ACL and meniscus I should have been able to get back to good fitness within a year but instead I lost the various psychological battles and ended up putting on 20KG of lard

MCL and 15kg, but I'm in the same place right now.

  • Keep going and don't over do it. One big thing for me was really watching what I ate. I changed my diet totaly to keep weight off, I went totaly vegan while I was recovering which I have kept up at about 80/90%.
I understand thats not for everyone but being aware of what your putting in your body helps a bit.

Good luck don't get to down it does get better you juat have to keep chipping away.

  • Ive just managed my 1st 10k bit stop start but managed to get the distance done. Chuffed

  • Yeah, that was my intention too when I got back to the UK (did my ACL skiing on a glacier in Switzerland therefore getting home took a bit of time and a logistical effort).

I managed to eat well for about four days before the "fuck its" started to happen.

  • Oooof flying back must have been a nightmare with all the kit. The change in diet helped me esp the urge to snack while being sat on your arse most of tbe time. I definatly put weight on but not as much as I thought I would.

  • Oooof flying back must have been a nightmare with all the kit

We had about 50kg of kit with us because we'd been snowshoeing and climbing before we got on to the skiing. Jana was a pack horse for sure. Didn't turn out to be too bad though, lots of luggage trolleys around and taking things slow.

I felt most sorry for mountain rescue who had to attend to me in -25. Sure, I got mild hypothermia but I'm pretty sure some of the medics got light frostbite in their fingers.

  • Oh shit. Scary stuff. Mountain rescue are special people.

  • I only wish I could convey how low drama the whole affair was. Slow speed innocuous crash, unlucky outcome. Calmly and professionally dealt with.

  • Fell Relays Champs Leg#2 today.

The front-runners are on another planet. 🤯

How they mapped it vs how we ran it:

  • No need to apologise, I'm just jealous! It's all a matter of perspective. I can't even dream of being in your out-of-shape state, but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't bother you that you're not where you'd want to be! I think you should be kind to yourself, sounds like you've had a reasonably busy five months (!) and you know what you need to do to get back where you want to be, it's just finding the time - not easy for anyone but especially not with a new job AND a baby. I'm looking forward to reading about how it all goes for you.

  • Thanks for the reccos btw!

  • Anyone else doing EfM this year?

  • I'm not, despite the large number of tempting places being offered by dns folks.

    Will be dotwatching though

  • Was considering London Marathon for 2022, but I've missed the ballot. Anyone know of similar Marathon-ish length races in April/May time to sign up for?

  • Doesn't answer you question but London Marathon is October 2nd 2022, so you haven't missed out on a Spring marathon :)

Brighton is normally the week before London (would normally be) isn't it?

  • Oh! Just need a target over the winter months. I hope they move London back to April eventually.

  • Thanks, will probably do this.

  • Dorney lake marathon is April 22nd, it will win no points for being scenic, or inspiring, but I personally find Dorney one of the most beautiful places particularly early morning, I did it in April and it was flawlessly organised, and while the course is repetitive it’s great for supporters as they can see you 8 times without moving and there aren’t many distractions from the beautiful sufferfest that is running a marathon , oh and it’s also ÂŁ35 to enter!

I’m planning on doing Boston if my time is good enough but dorney is my backup if travel, COVID, work or family conspire against me.

  • Easier week for me as I want to get a benchmark of how fit I am this week so plan to do a 5k “race” with a couple of mates, far in watch reckons I’m around 19:45 kind of shape, which would put me on par with where I was this time last year, still a bit heavier than I was at this point like for like.

In my head a desire to run sub 2:50 is forming, which I think is achievable but definitely a stretch, as it’s a ~6 minute improvement! The appeal is that it requires running at 40 minute 10k pace for 4 and a bit of the buggers, which in my head is significant, and also very easy to see if you’re on track or not!

  • Sounds a good one. I took a deep breath and signed up for Manchester earlier.

  • I supplemented my headtorch with a nitecore tiki tonight, a great tiny hand torch, usb rechargeable. Long press & hold the button for a bright beam which goes off on release just to eliminate dark patches. 10/10 would recommend and I think I'll be getting another fairly soon.

I dropped a few quid more for the glow in the dark one too.

    Peg for scale.
