Never had a single Gloucester before

  • I’ve always been a bit underwhelmed by Charles Martell cheeses but the Stinking Bishop is an experience!

If you like Single Gloucester there are some good Welsh cheeses that sort of sit between that and a Wensleydale (I do love Hawes Wensleydale).

Gorwydd Caerphilly for example is organic and unpasteurised and fucking mint.

  • Stonebeck Wensleydale. One of the best cheeses I have had, and I've eaten a lot.

  • I will try that, cheers.

  • ‘A good Wensleydale is soft and flaky, will spread like butter and has the delicate blue veining well distributed throughout the curd. The flavour is rich, sweet and creamy, not acid or bitter.’ (Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Bulletin No.43, 1938)

Pretty cool insight. I reckon there were almost ‘French’ levels of cheese diversity in pre ww2 uk.

  • I’m putting together a list of cheese for Christmas.

I’m looking for a nice Brie and maybe something interesting with chillis

  • nice Brie

    Baron Bigod is nice.

  • That’s serendipitous, we stopped at the farm near Bungay today and bought some.

  • Hope you enjoyed it?

I'm on the Perl Wen this week which is good too, the Baron is my favourite though.

  • Drama fit for the script of a future Christmas Movie played out here today. Marking us as safe.

  • Just got told that the Kirkham’s cheddar we got from Neals Yard has been recalled for ecoli- the Christmas present nobody wanted 🤢
Luckily we didn’t actually eat any - so have just binned it

  • Deviated today as my cheese grater of 20 years has broken beyond repair.

Model no longer made, company doesn't exist anymore. It was a classic three sider, but with each join was a smaller side (think octagon, but with three sides 1/4 as wide) for precision grating.

Anyone got a recommendation for a decent grater that'll last?

  • Oxo softworks.

The handle is a single molded piece that won't snap off from the sides like every other grater I've ever had the misfortune to use.

Also has an entire large side of mini grater, rather than a giant nutmeg grating surface.

    Pricey, by worth it.
