Trek Fuel is a beefed up XC bike, is my understanding - so in that strange part of the Venn that people have decided to call Down Country, which I think means you have to have a dangle-mug and a plaid shirt.

I 100% agree. I did some of midweek madness Manchester series this summer. They were all over Manchester- 1hr+ drives on a weeknight, not that cheap, very high level so you get lapped twice by someone off wheelbase team, a fair few bits that some people had to walk up or down albeit I didn’t, and a lot of very high end kit- felt bad for the guy in baggies on his £400 Halfords job who was a local having a go. Also practically nobody chats to you but this might just be me as I look miserable!

I got my Ripley for 2500 on PinkBike. Buying new right now is crazy.

I think that’s exactly what I want so yeh, my logic was right. Keep the scale hardtail for easy stuff and gravelly type rides, use the fuel for into the peaks, long marathons where I don’t know the terrain and riding with people who have more adventurous bikes so I’m not constantly nearly crashing!

I was looking at the Fuel as something to chase Amey on.

-
• #21885

Doesn't come with a dropper from what I can see.

I did a bunch of the autumn / winter Gorrick races. If you want to turn yourself inside out for a couple of hours they are good. But they are low on the fun factor. The summer 'event' style stuff is much better, i.e. torque in your sleep
Better to ride with some mates and be like "for the next hour, we smash".

I've only got the winter to get a bit more racing under my belt before I ditch this city

I don't have a turbo. They are the antithesis of MTBing

Evie Richards and Jolanda Neff both using AXS droppers on theirs

I think axs is the only way to go for a dropper on an xc bike. I had a ks lev integra on my Scott scale briefly and between the dropper cable, remote lockout, brakes, and gear cable it was a birds nest of cables at the front end. I wanted a dropper post less than I wanted a tidy handlebar.
I’ve since ordere a carbon hope seatpost and in true lfgss fashion, will build an enduro bike around my dropper post.

It’s impossible to get one that was suitable for my bike, they only come in relatively short lengths with 125mm drop and I need a 400m seat post, otherwise yes a crotch grabber would have been ideal
-
• #21897
I also think they look pretty cool, if a bit awkward to use
-
• #21898
Only slightly less awkward than a 20 quid qr seat clamp

I want a XC bike

Problem with having an xc bike is that it makes you also want an enduro bike.
Those are all £4K bikes? I was thinking more like £2k+ so maybe trek fuel is the right sort of thing?
