It would yes, but can you imagine the outcry if price cap is raised over Christmas/winter to protect large energy firms vs consumer?
Not saying it wouldn’t happen, but it would be quite some u-turn.
Price cap also means you’d be on standard variable tariff, thus could change at any point with no notice and no exit fees if prices change and a better deals comes out.

Fair points, thanks.

£10 says energy will be nationalised by December.

Am I the only one to find the concept of sitting in a freezing cold £40k kitchen because you want to save £1 quite amusing?
I guess the wine cooler doesn’t have to work as hard. -

Nope.

You’ll be hard pressed finding anyone that’ll take new customers at the moment
Octopus are still taking new customers - if you're going to get switched anyway and have big energy bills you might as well pocket £50 for the bother!

If you're with Bulb looks like you might be going to Ovo:

Current advice is just wait. You'll be switched to a company who are big enough not to go under.
Take the pain and think about switching once Winter has finished.
Capped tarrifs are the best deal on the market at the present time.

Hurm. What happens if you have a pre-pay meter with Bulb? Looks like Ovo don't do them.

Yep so you might as well switch to a decent provider who isn't going to go under* and who is going to pay you to do that.
Current advice is not very imaginative...
*Presuming you're not on a fixed tariff.

Fucked?
Pre-payment meters are more expensive even on capped tarrifs. Which sucks.
I guess you'll be moved to a firm that supports them?

Glad I got a credit refund from Bulb this week

Better to get rid of pre pay meters if you can but if not Octopus take them!

This what Octopus Energy currently has on its website.

I’ve been with Octopus for a couple of years now, and this doesn’t surprise me. They’re pretty sound.

The pre-payment is for electric only and it's less than £1 a day so hasn't felt like it's needed changing... I'd thought to just sit tight and wait, but I'd rather be with some kind of 'green energy' co than going to BG or similar.

This winter is going to be pretty shit, isn’t it? My wife works from home, and being one of them there forren types she hates the cold, so our bills are going to be astronomical.

get her multiple hot water bottles.

Are you renting? You can change the meter without Landlord permission.

£70k.
And the kitchen is toasty.
Still loving the stove top kettle on an induction hob. Pure luxury.

Well if the oven is just heating Aldi pizza continuously it will be warm.
😂

Fill it to the top but just use one cup, wanton indulgence.

Never been in an Aldi, and no longer buying any convenience food at all.
I've been cooking everything from scratch since the kitchen was done. The oven comfortably goes high enough to make a really nice pizza. My Thai curry is also really good now. The collection of cookery books has expanded and every one is used.

No, I own (the bank does but ykwim), there's no issue with changing the meter, I just haven't felt the need / got round to it. On Bulb the standing charge is a bit more, the unit charge is a bit less, compared with regular billing.
Huh yeah, their variable option does predict to be slightly cheaper, but that would leave me well exposed to massive bills if the price cap is removed right? Over another month to decide so probably just best waiting to see where the conversation goes over the next month or so. Tory minister on Politics Today saying the price cap would stay, but Torys gonna U-turn.
