The material is basically good for the application, but the benefit over forged or milled aluminium is tiny compared with the enormous cost of manufacture. If the demand curve never crosses the cost curve, the manufacturer had better cut his losses and try something else.
The calipers are aluminium, lever brackets might be glass filled Zytel as Wienmann certainly had that technology back then.
