• Couple of tiling questions... What's the standard grout gap between tiles, 3mm? Can this vary?

And what's the general feeling with tile placement? Start at the top and work down? From the floor to ceiling? Or start from the centreline of the wall out to the floor and ceiling so you have tiles that are trimmed to the same width?

2-3mm is usual on walls. 3-5mm with floor tiles. Depends how regular they are. if 'rustic', you'll need a bit more space, if very even grout can be thinner.

Placement depends a bit on room layout. If you have a bath, I'd start from the top of that with a full tile as that is the most visible line. Or window level. Otherwise I would start from the bottom and then work up so the only part tiles are at the ceiling.

You see this bothers me, I kinda feel like I wanna see a full tile at the top of the room, not at the floor line... Something to bear in mind when I mock/muck it up...

It will be done by a professional tiler, I'm just trying to second guess every situation... Once a designer, etc...

So, pattern! I think I'm gonna go with a horizontal grid pattern, because it's clean... Again, I'll have to mock this up... Floor tiles will do the same following the direction of the longest side of the room... I'm hoping I'll chance on a nice natural spot for our nook. Tiles are 600mm X 300mm which I think will be plenty big enough, was even thinking about going 1200mm X 300mm but that might be OTT... The drawing will not lie!!

I'm gonna do this in InDesign... 🤪 If I've got any time left on my 7-day free trial, I fear it may have elapsed!!
