Epic rant about the fragile shit-show that is Tumblr's codebase. Starts with the bug currently annoying them and then goes off on a huge list of all the daft bugs and ill-considered "fixes" they have encountered while trying to work with the Tumblr APIs.
Not that designing a social media site is easy (I'm sure @Velocio could look at this list and wince in sympathy). But still funny.

Woke up to some over night chat on my streets WA group.
In cases it's not obvious, first 1.03am message is from one person and the other two are from someone else.

WhatsApp and Facebook servers were down most of yesterday but seemed to come back about 1am. I had a bunch of messages from earlier in the day through then too
-
• #26161
I don’t think you being on WhatsApp is epic but…
-
• #26162
Oh yeah.
I wonder what time Mr 1.03 actually sent the message?
TBH I've been really surprised by the lack of petrol hints and tips on our group.

I've had a load of messages from yesterday evening come through this morning but they're all stamped with the time they were supposed to be sent. Leads me to believe Mr 1.03 was there at 1.03.

Used to get through a fair bit myself but been off it for years now. Managed to kick it without help, which helped the ‘rebuilding my life‘ process enormously.

What’s the fail?
-
• #26167
Artwork is from the album Jane Doe
-
• #26168
Yeah. I’m still not really seeing the fail.
The piece was made by repeatedly copying the original ‘found’ photographic image to distort it if I read correctly. Are you saying it’s a fail because it used an image of a real person rather than being created from…someone’s imagination? I’m not sure the term really applies to art but you think it should be purely ‘fictional’?

Jane/John Doe a name for someone whose identity is unknown or intentionally concealed
-
• #26170
I’d say then that using a ‘fictional’ image wouldn’t really fit the definition of Jane/John Doe and that the identity remaining unknown for 20 years makes it a bit of a win.
-
• #26171
You asked, I told... not my meme - take it up with OP.
-
• #26172
Sorry, realised I’m sounding quite argumentative here and not meaning to at all.
-
• #26173
Isn't there a legal debate here as well? As she's a well known model maybe you can't just grab her photo even if you distort it? And tbh it's not really that distorted...
-
• #26174
The fail is that the piece is called Jane Doe which is essentially identity unknown.
Now we know the identity it should no longer be called Jane Doe because it is no longer a person of unknown identity.
So by identifying the model the fail is that the piece should no longer be called Jane Doe and the artist should rename it.Hardly Epic though, more like meh, so what.
