  • Unless you want tbe added range I'd say it wouldn't be a great use of money. Your sr11 will be good for a fair few years yet.

  • Many more cassette ratio options with 11 still, too.

  • And cross compatibility with Shimano 11 speed parts and wheels.

  • hi timmah!

I'm considering using my 11sp record shifters on a build like that. I want a 11-50 on the back, and I've been wandering if the new Deore 11sp (51t max) will talk to the campys using a shiftmate 7.

What RD are you using? The little research I've done suggst the geometry of Shimano rear RD's is the same for 10, 11 and 12... or at least close enough. My fear is that "close enough" RD geometry plus "close enough" shiftmate cable pull modification will result in terrible shifting.

I've also got a bar-end on that bike so could just use it+ the campys for braking, but...

    But I love shimergos!

  • 10s deore long cage with an 11-42 sunrace cassette.

  • 10s deore long cage

Thankyou. Probably will give it a try, if I dont like the shifmate thingy I'll go back to friction bar end... not much investment. Will post pics now that I started posting here (long time lurking around!).

  • Thanks mate, and likewise @leggyblonde and @JB. Now I just need to bag a chainset in 50/34

  • 10spd (Centaur carbon groupset) shifter question if I may?
When I drop the rear mech into the lowest (largest) cog, then try and shift up, the ratchet in the lever doesn't engage; so I end up having to tug the cable to get it to click up / engage.
It happens whether I'm in the large or small front ring.
Where's the problem likely to be? Cable tension, the mechanism in the shifter body, gremlins?
Of course I should really just not use the 30t cog and htfu, but I'm tired and old.
    All suggestion welcome.

  • Sounds like the shifter ratchet is dead. A very common problem with 10spd when campag switched to cheap vinyl for the ratchet material. I’ve had to replace a veloce set for this reason. I think you can get it repaired if you have the time and willpower.

  • Gah, what a pain. Thank you.

  • Just a thought but I think 29t is the recommended max for Campagnolo short cage so 30t might be causing some issues unless you have a medium cage, maybe look at B tension screw should be about 5mm gap between cassette and jockey wheel?

  • Ah, I’ll try that first and report back.

  • This is correct RE max capacity

  • I'm desperately on the hunt for a pair of 11 speed >2015 ergo levers, ideally record or super record. Annoyingly I'd bought some recently and myhermes managed to lose the parcel. If anyone can help please give me a shout, I've tried the wanted ads but without much luck, thanks!

  • I need a 12 speed cassette for my turbo trainer, my bike runs 12spd Chorus so the cassette would need to be compatible.

Can I use any old 12 speed cassette? As its just for a trainer I'm thinking about a cheap shimano MTB cassette or something?

  • Jumping on this dredge, don't suppose user127304 is still around and fancies reporting on how they got on with the 11 speed shifters and the Deore/shiftmate combination?

I can manage with my current setup, but would really like a little more range and Athena silver medium or long cage rear derailleurs seem to either be entirely mythical or rarer than hen's teeth.

  • I am after a few tools to borrow - collect in London

. 10mm Allen key to fit a ultra torque crankset

    . Campag chain tool
. Campag BB cup tool - ultra torque cups

Can pay in beers / wines / lemonades / coffees / falafels

    Thanks!

  • I don't have a Campagnolo chain tool but have a Park Tool CT3.3 - you can't peen with it but if you're just cutting to length and then using a quick link you'll be fine. I have all the other bits and you're more than welcome to borrow them or come over and fit the parts at mine

  • 10mm Allen key to fit a ultra torque crankset
    Campag chain tool
Campag BB cup tool - ultra torque cups

I've got all the above, in SW15, it's a generic chain tool, but worked for me, you're welcome to borrow.

  • Peening a Campagnolo chain is both a huge chore and a great delight all at the same time (when it goes right, anyway). Proper mechanical satisfaction.

  • I've got the BB tool and the 10 mm allen key tool. You are more than welcome to borrow them.

  • Seen a few lightly used 12 speeds groupsets for sale over the past few months which has got me thinking about upgrading but the cost of cables & cassette is putting me off. Anyone been using non campy cables &/or cassettes?
    General views on 12 speed?
Read through this thread overall seems pretty positive but maybe not enough to really justify the extra cost over running 11 speed?

  • thanks for this. Sorted it in the end thanks to @ghostface

  • have another issue though - UT record cranks are creaking - apparently a common problem.. Anyone found a definitive solution? I suppose it could be a number of things. especially from buying second hand cranks. tried tightening the crank bolts - they are ok.. next thing is to maybe replace bearings? something like Endura??
