Great clip! It makes perfect sense that (this) Bond would wear an Omega over Rolex, he doesn’t come from money, he has been taught and understands the value of it & the value an omega sea master offers over a submariner. His Rolex wearing old money oxford golfing friends would remind him of his poor background, Bond doesn’t want to be like those posh boys therefore rejects their favourite brands.

alternative reading: Are Bond is an aspiration for the kind of more-money-than-sense chud that will pay over the odds to display material goods in the hopes of impressing their CEO and those that believe buying an Omega rather than a Rolex represents some version of salt of the earch are just as delusional as the guy at the next table in the 19th hole.

mostly I'm just trying to wind up Omega worshippers and it seems to be working

Ugh, “my *anything*” when referring to a person who’s not family is very revealing about what someone thinks they’re getting as part of the transaction. Major red flag that.

Its all in the context I think. Its a pretty reasonable shorthand in some circumstances. You're right though, it can come across poorly.

How do you feel about "my dentist" and "my doctor", still burning with rage?

For the last few years I've been avoiding referring to Jana as my wife. Instead i've been introducing Jana and then explaining that I'm her husband.
I'd like you to meet Jana, I'm her husband.
Always confuses people :D

does the fact of getting quoted here so frequently ever cause someone to reflect about how they speak and think about things
-
• #2899
I go to see the doctor and the dentist.
And that doesn't jar with being asked "who is your doctor"? Or does being asked that cause your blood pressure to spike, and you then explain the error of the askers ways to them?

Most of the time it reveals more about the person posting the quote than the quoted tbh.
