Dredge!
The new season is upon us, if anyone wants to subscribe to Premier Sports the promo code NHL49 gets you a year for £49 (instead of £99) on Sky (maybe on Virgin too? And perhaps the app only? I just did the sky one)
Go Bruins!

Seattle reveal their name
Krakens
Cue all the "I'm a Krak-Head" "see you at the KrakHouse" gags
Logo is shit too. -

Krakens
I think they either have the plural as 'kraken' or envisage their team as like the tentacles of one kraken.

I was hoping for the pigeons but it could be worse I guess?? 😂

Lovely seeing Leafs choking a 3-0 lead in the playoffs.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. -
• #57
I quite like the name and logo. I was worried it was going to be the Seattle Amazons or something.

Rangers are buying Lundquist out the final year of his contract.
I'm no NYR fan, but King Henrik is one of the greatest keepers of the last 20 years.
Deserves a better send off than "fuck you, good night"
Wonder if he will do another season or 2 elsewhere (Maybe Seattle?) Or hang up his pads for good? He is 38, and not quite the player he was in his prime
(Same was said of M-A Fleury though, and he did a great season with Vegas) -

I hope he goes somewhere else for a season or two, has a blinder, and gets to retire on his own terms. (While I have a mild crisis as players my age are considered ancient/past it/retirement age...)
I'm still not over Flower leaving the Pens, and the way Vegas have fucked him around this year. At least if he ends up somewhere like Seattle I might get a chance to see him play 🤞🤞🤞

Talking of Seattle, how does a new franchise player up? Just free agents? Or do they get extra draft picks?
-
• #61
When Vegas joined, teams got to list a number of players that are protected, unprotected players could be selected to join the expansion team.
I think there was limits on how many can be drafted from 1 club (and limits on how many can be protected by a club)I imagine it will be similar for Seattle

Krakens have been given the draft list.
Each team can protect 11 players (7 offense, 3 defense and 1 goalie) and players with No Movement clauses had to be included (or waive their NM status)
Seattle pick 1 eligible player from each team in the league (with the exception of Vegas who are too new to be included)
Minimum requirements are 14 Forwards, 9 Defence and 3 Goalies.Checking the player lists, there are some big names up grabs.
Tarasenko from St Louis and Carey Price from the Habs are 2 names I was surprised to see
I saw Ovechkin on there, but I cannot imagine he would sign a contract with them (he is UFA, so they would need to pony up some serious cash to get a contract signed, and I think he'd still turn it down)Being a Bruins fan I was disappointed to see Rask and Halek on the list, but Tuuk is injured and might not be fit again, and I'd probably take David Krejki as the pick for some old man knowledge for the new team

I still haven't recovered from the last expansion draft 😅 sad the pens have exposed Tanev, I really hope he stays in Pittsburgh 🤞
Avs have exposed Landeskog too, but he's in the same situation as Ovi I think.
Saw buffalo have exposed Jeff Skinner and are just hoping his contract is too bad for Seattle to take him 😂

Just seen this again after this year's playoff performance 🤣🤣🤣

Anyone know if there is a UK channel showing any NHL this season?
Premier Sports had it, but it expired at the end of last season, and I cannot see any mention of it on their site.
I let my subs expire, because hockey was the only thing I watched on it. -

I think Hulu on prime are showing games, but I don't have it. It'll be highlights only for me. Looking forward to following the Krakens first season.
Not sure how it'll go, Gourdes out for a few months I think which isn't great.

It seems the NHL.TV app is available globally, 120USD for 12 months access.
cannot fathom if they show every game, selected games, or no games...I'm looking forward to seeing the Krakens 1st season too, VGK set the bar pretty high for new franchises though, gotta get to the play off finals or bust.

I found nhl66.ir was good for streaming games. I stopped my premier player subscription a while ago as they never had the games I wanted to watch.
I'm not sure how they work media blackouts in the UK, I know it used to be games that clashed with premier player, but if they don't have it any more who knows? https://nhllive.com/en/api-status/blackout looks like you can look up which games you can get in your region here, but they haven't updated it yet 😅 I think you also get access to previous games on NHL.tv which is a bonus.
I'm just looking forward to being in the right time zone for once 😍😍 even if Crosby, Malkin & Guentzel are all out already 🙃🙃 classic Pens 🥲

Toronto maple leafs All or Nothing now up on prime. Not watched it yet, but the NFL ones have all been excellent.

Bergeron signing a 1 year deal worth £2.5million is hilariously cheap.
AFAIUI he doesn't want to play anywhere else, and was given the choice of retirement or taking whatever was left in the salary cap. He took the money and stayed with the Bruins.
Don't get me wrong, £2.5m is a serious chunk of change, but he is one of the all time greats and must have been on 3+ times that amount on his old contract.
Just hoping he gets fit again soon (hip? surgery) -

Big Z back in black (and gold)
On a 1 day contract.
So he can retire as a Bruins player.
Hilarious.

"Every player on the ice has a 10 minute misconduct"
Not the greatest brawl but a top line from the ref

Penguins retired #68.
Seeing Jagr back in black was great. Wish they signed him to a 1 day contract and given him a run out over the weekend.
52 years old and still playing (admittedly for a club he owns) is no mean feat.
Never going to be mentioned alongside Gretzky and Lemeaux, but he is in a class of his own.
Missing his HoF induction because he was still an NHL player always makes me smile.
And his mullet was a sight to behold. -

Got to tick an item off the bucket list last night ❤️❤️❤️ Never thought I would get to see the Pens up close. And a win against the Canucks too! It was a very tense game for sure! (Sorry for the huge pictures...)

Good times!
Being at a game is so different from watching on tv.
When a guy gets boarded and you hear the pads crunching against the boards, you don’t get that on tv. And sometimes you hear them gasp…
One time I was directly behind the penalty box and heard Mark Messier swearing at the ref for his whole two minutes.
The NHL online international shop has a bit of a sale on (still not cheap but cheaper for some stuff) and you can get a 15% discount if you sign up to the mailing list.
Not sure if it's valid on discounted stuff though.
Also I'm fairly sure the current successes are an indicator of the end of days. Blue Jackets went on a 15 game streak (admittedly choked the last couple of games)
